Cars for Yellow Jackets

My fellow Jackets, I have two passions outside of church and home: Georgia Tech sports and cars. At Tech I took the ill-fated elective in automotive design TWICE. I love our annual auto show, because it shows just how much Georgia Tech's ballin' alumni truly love the machinery that moves them. Now, I know all of us already have a car. It's a gorgeous 1930 Model A Sport Coupe, but let's be honest about Ford. They've backstabbed us for years by playing a certain commercial during Tech games. So I feel we Tech folks are free to chose any make and model we wish. So, what should a Yellow Jacket fan be driving to show some automotive passion alongside their school spirit? Well, here are some cars that Chrysler-Fiat Corporation have put on the market seemingly just for us...

Sub-compact: Fiat 500 "Stinger" Those not familiar with Italy's ubiquitous supermini might be puzzled about why any self-respecting American would drive such a "cute" little car. Well, Tech fans understand the idea of a throwback, right? Here's your throwback to the days when performance was to be had in spades if only one would take the weight out of a car and use less power (because small engines are very light.) The "Cinquecento" has an air-cooled motor. You'r only gonna fit two people in it, but it will be the most fun you two have ever had in a supermini. And this edition is covered in the black and yellow of a yellow jacket.

Fullsize Sedan: Dodge Challenger Super Bee Everyone has seen Dodge's massive four door sedan in some form by now. Well, to keep it short, this one's "gotta Hemi" and has had itself painted yellow with the storied "Super Bee" logo.

Coupe: Dodge Challenger Yellow Jacket For people who truly understand the latest in the muscle car wars, this vehicle is just a super expensive luxury cruiser than has no chance of besting the latest comparable offerings from Ford and Chevy. But, ladies and gentlemen, the Georgia Tech fan in you should find it pretty hard to argue with a 470 horsepower Hemi shoved into a car that is actually named the Yellow Jacket. Just get a peak at that logo!

This is obviously not meant to persuade any of you to buy a new car, but I have just noticed how much of a bone Chrysler has thrown us in the last six months. You will see Dwags driving none of these vehicles to be sure. On the other hand, burning rubber in one on your way to see the Jackets play could be a lot of fun.

What other vehicles should we Jackets fans know and love?

Squeaky-foul Bouncy-hoops.

Tonight the Ramblin' Yellow Jackets of Georgia Tech will attempt to outscore the Hurri-cons of Dade County, and there are many questions swirling around as tip-off approaches. Will we have yet another sluggish start? Will Glenn Rice Jr. be able to score more than 4 points outside of the final 4 minutes? Will Daniel Miller block so many shots that he reduces the Miami squad to tears (cry hard in the paint)?

More importantly, what direction is this program headed in?

27 years ago, January 23, 1984. The "Thrillerdome" is born, during the greatest game in GT history.

January 23, 1984, the Jackets beat #19 UVA in Triple Overtime. I was there, I'll never forget that night!

Then radio color commentator, Brad Nessler, sums it up best:

"Tech had won its first ACC game against Wake Forest by a couple of points and during nearly every game, our play-by-play announcer, Al Ciraldo, was saying, 'Brothers and Sisters, we've got another Thriller brewing'.

"Then we had the Virginia game and that's still the best basketball game I've every been around or broadcast.

"Alexander Memorial Coliseum was too many words to say all the time, and everybody in the place was going crazy. So we came back from a break in the second overtime of that game and I said, 'We're back at the Thrillerdome....'"

As I've related before on FTRS, the next morning, the three players shown above were all in an 8am class, and received a standing ovation, I was there, I'll never forget it!

Stephen Hill Come Back!

This message is directed to Stephen Hill.

I don't know what your reasons are for entering the NFL draft so I will provide a few reasons that it would be good for you to stay in school.

1. Academically: If you come back for your senior year of football at Georgia Tech, you will be able to graduate and finish your degree. This is a big pro for coming back to school because it allows you to be better prepared for the future. You wouldn't have to return to college to finish your degree like you would if your leave early for the NFL.

2. Financially: This is another great reason to come back for your senior season. You may think this seems wrong, but where you get drafted determines the value of the contract you will get if you are drafted. After looking up draft projections, I've seen you going anywhere from undrafted all the way to the 3rd round. It will be very difficult to get drafted as a 4th or 3rd rounder unless you refine your skills as a wide receiver quickly before the upcoming NFL draft. You have been blessed with great size and athleticism, but that is not the most important part of being a WR as you probably know.

But let's say you come back for your senior year. If you put in a lot of work this offseason and next year by working very hard on your catching, route running, and other aspects of a being a wide receiver, then you will see an improvement in your production. All of this combined with a successful season next year will raise your draft stock higher. You may lose a year of earning a salary in the NFL, but the rewards of becoming a higher draft pick will be worth it. You will be a better WR than you are right now and you will earn a better contract, more high paying contract as a higher draft pick.

I'm not sure of your reasons for declaring for the NFL draft, but whatever happens, we support you and hope your career turns out great!

The greatest UGA football joke for 2011

Derek Dooley, Tennessee head coach, called his Mom on the phone frantically:

Derek - Momma, I don't know what I'm gonna do, we can't win no football games!

Barbara Dooley - Don't worry son Momma is gonna fix everthing, I'll send Herschal up there

Derek Dooley - What can he do?

Barbara Dooley - I'll have him squirt his "MAGIC SEED" in the gatorade, if you have any injured players all they need to do is get it straight from the tap!!

Derek Dooley - That's disgusting!! That can't help anything!

Barbara Dooley - How do you think we went undefeated in 1980?

Derek Dooley - Erk Rusell

Barbara Dooley - Derek!! What would your father say!!

Derek Dooley - Oh come one Momma, tou know that's right, besides how could that halp an injured player?

Barbara Dooley - CLEARED UP MY LUMBAGO HONEY!!

Derek Dooley - Momma, What would Daddy say??!!

Barbara Dooley - Not much, who do think cleard up his hemoroids?, Erk?

What Do You Think About the Story that Clemson Players Quit?

We all saw it on the field. I even remarked about it in my last article. Now there is apparent proof, if you can believe the West Virginia Players, that Clemson players were telling their opponents early in the first half to back off and just enjoy the win without running up the score too much. According to several sources the offensive and defensive linemen in particular basically told the West Virginia players that they were just going to go through the motions and to please just enjoy the win and to quit being so mean about it. Here is one link in particular:

Tell me what you think.

OK, We Stole That....

No need to touch on game issues. With a game like that there is major emotion on both sides.

I just want wish a Happy New Year to all the GT fans here. Enjoyed conversing with you all and even talking trash over the game.

It was an honor to play against a team with the tradition and history of Georgia Tech and may the new year bring you 5 start recruits, outstanding coaching, and great football. You are all 'Helluva Engineers' in my book.
