We have reached the dog days of summer. We’re caught between the end of basketball and the beginning of football, and everything has slowed down. Recruiting news won’t pick back up in earnest until towards the beginning of the season, when camps and things like The Opening have finished.
That being said, we do have a few bits of information regarding the Jackets.
Recently, three-star CB Gentry Bonds from Murfreesboro, Tenn. listed Tech as one of a very eclectic top five.

It’s hard to predict where his recruitment will end up, especially because a lot of these schools probably aren’t used to recruiting against each other, and because there isn’t a clear link between them that might suggest his motivations. We’ll keep you posted as his recruitment develops.
In other news, a recent USA Today piece chronicled “the good, the bad, and the really bad” of the 2017 recruiting cycle. And I don’t want to be the bearer of bad news, but the Jackets aren’t in the first one. The piece chronicles the lack of commitments Tech had going into the summer and how Tech’s top current commit Jaytlin Askew is ranked No. 506 in the 247Sports Composite rankings. But at least we aren’t the worst - that would be Baylor.
While things admittedly have not gone very well thus far, there is reason to believe things could get better for this class, particularly if the Jackets are able to have a bounce-back season and show that 2015 was a horrible fluke.
We will continue to monitor the latest recruiting news and bring it to you in next week’s Roundup!
