Georgia Tech picked up its third offensive line commitment over the weekend when Parker Braun, a high three-star lineman out of Hallsville High School in Texas and the brother of current offensive lineman Trey Braun, announced that he will be attending Tech starting in 2016. Braun, a top-20 guard in the nation, chose Tech over more than 20 offers from various programs around the country, including notable interest from Auburn, Georgia, Florida, Missouri, Ohio State, and South Carolina. Though the Braun brothers will never be able to play together on The Flats, it is hard to doubt that Trey's career at Tech was a very encouraging factor for Parker. The 2016 recruiting class now stands at nine with plenty of promising players and some room to grow.
Depending on when you are reading this article, we are just over (or under) 24 hours away from kickoff versus Alcorn State tomorrow. Though the game is supposed to be nothing more than a tuneup game, there are still plenty of reasons to be excited and comparatively few valid excuses not to watch -- the game will be broadcast live on one of the Fox Sports affiliate stations. Last season we celebrated the 100th anniversary of Grant Field and this season will include yet another milestone as the Jackets will kick off the 123rd season of football on The Flats. The practicing and drilling is all over and all that is left now is real football versus a real team.
One of the biggest upsets of the entire 2014 season took place in Ohio when the unranked Virginia Tech Hokies knocked off the well-regarded Ohio State Buckeyes with relative ease. The nation was shocked when those offensively challenged Hokies knocked off the eventual national champions on the road, but thankfully that just couldn't happen again this season. Or could it? The Hokies and Buckeyes will kick off the season against one another on Monday, this time in Blacksburg and with a lot more on the line for both teams. Will VPI get another upset? Not likely. But if any team is going to get to Ohio State this season, it may as well be Virginia Tech -- a number of key players are suspended for the Buckeyes for game one.
In honor of the season finally beginning, let's flash back one more time to that huge COFH win a few months back.
This should be a fun season.
