Baseball: Yellow Jackets Complete Sweep of Bowling Green

GT Athletics

Beesball beat Bowling Green 8-5 to finish their second consecutive weekend sweep.

Ladies and Gents, get out the brooms for the second weekend in a row. Georgia Tech has swept ANOTHER weekend series.

Georgia Tech got the scoring started in the bottom of the first when Mott Hyde scored on a Matt Gonzalez sac fly.

Bowling Green would retaliate in the second inning, however, when senior Andrew Kubuski scored after a fielding error. The Falcons would go on to score two more runs in the inning due to a two-RBI single from senior Patrick Lancaster.

Georgia Tech wouldn't stay silent for long, though. In the bottom of the second inning, Mott Hyde hit a booming, bases loaded triple to left field. Hyde would go on to score off of a Ryan Peurifoy groundout. Thomas Smith would score again for the Yellow Jackets in the third inning off of a misplay by the shortstop.

The Falcons would add two more runs to tie things up in the fourth inning, when senior Patrick Lancaster and junior Brian Bien would both score.

Georgia Tech would complete their scoring in the bottom of the fifth. Two true freshmen (Arden Pabst and Connor Justus) would drive in a run a piece on two back-to-back singles.

Starting the game for Georgia Tech today was junior RHP Josh Heddinger. In his 3.1 innings of work, Heddinger allowed five runs (four earned) on eight hits, with a strikeout, a walk, and a hit batter. Coming on in relief of Heddinger was senior RHP Matt Grimes, who was credited with the win. In his 4.2 innings of work, Grimes allowed zero runs on only one hit, with three strikeouts and one walk. Closing out the game and earning the save for the Yellow Jackets today was senior RHP Jonathan Roberts. In his lone inning of work, Roberts allowed zero runs on zero hits and hit a batter.

Starting the game for Bowling Green today was freshman LHP Andrew Lacinak. In his 2.1 innings of work, Lacinak allowed six runs (five earned) on three hits, while striking out nobody, walking five batters, and hitting one. Coming on in relief of Lacinak was junior RHP Trevor Blaylock. In his 2.2 innings of work, Blaylock allowed two runs on three hits, while striking out one batter and walking three. The next pitcher up for the Falcons was senior RHP Chris Miller. In his lone inning of work, Miller allowed zero runs on one hit, but did not strike out anyone or allow a walk. Finishing the game up for the Falcons was senior RHP Ethan McKenney. In his 2.0 innings of work, McKenney allowed zero runs on one hit and walked and struck out one batter.

Next up for the Yellow Jackets is a midweek showdown with the puppy dogs in the cesspool. The game starts at Foley Field at 7 PM on Tuesday night and can be watched online at RamblinWreck.com ($) or listened to on 91.1 WREK.

What did y'all think of the series as a whole? Does Beesball have any sweeps left in them? Early predictions for Tuesday night's game against the puppy dogs?
