GT Athletics

Georgia Tech moves to 2-3 with a win over UNC-Greensboro.

WE WON!!!!! Finally, after barely pulling off a victory in game one of the season, the Yellow Jackets put together a great effort and completely demolished the Spartans.

Below is the starting line-up for Georgia Tech today.

Georgia Tech started the scoring in the second inning, when Brandon Gold scored on an RBI groundout from Danny Spingola. They would add another run when Thomas Smith drove in AJ Murray. Tech would go on to score three more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. With two on and two out, Thomas Smith drilled a pitch to left field for his first home run of the season, making the score 5-0 in favor of the Yellow Jackets. Georgia Tech would go on to have one more scoring inning in the seventh. In the seventh, Ryan Peurifoy drove in a run with a sac fly. In the next at-bat, Eric Knox hit a line drive on the first pitch to drive in Tech's final run.

Starting the game for the Yellow Jackets today was sophomore LHP Jonathan King, who was credited with the win. In five innings, King gave up no runs on one hit with two strikeouts, one walk, and hit two batters. After King's exit, senior RHP Jonathan Roberts came in. In his inning of work, Roberts struck out one batter while not allowing a single hit. Freshman RHP Matthew Gorst made his debut in the seventh inning. After giving up three runs in .2 innings, Danny Hall made the executive decision to pull him in favor of sophomore LHP Sam Clay. He was able to finish the inning without any more damage. Pitching the eighth inning was another freshman RHP in Matt Phillips. He and another freshman RHP (Ben Schniederjans) combined to pitch back-to-back 1-2-3 innings to finish the game and seal the win for the Yellow Jackets!

Below is the starting line-up for UNC-Greensboro today.

The Spartans did not succeed on offense nearly as well as the Yellow Jackets did today. They were only able to bring runners home during the seventh inning. In that inning, they were able to put there only three runs on the board.

Starting the game for the Spartans was sophomore RHP Ryan Clark. This was his first start in his collegiate career. In his five innings of work, Clark managed to strike out seven batters, but allowed five runs (zero earned) on six hits, being credited with the loss. One more notable thing on Clark: He entered the game having never allowed a collegiate homerun. Thank you to Thomas Smith for ending that. After Clark's unfortunate exit, redshirt-junior RHP Adam Boghosian came on to pitch. He was unable to do any better than Ryan Clark. He gave up two runs (both earned) on one hit in a grand total of zero innings of work. This would have been so much funnier had he not pitched in the last two games for the Spartans, because had he not, he would have finished the game with an ERA of infinity (insert evil laugh here). After Boghosian's exit, redshirt-junior LHP Blair Betts came on to pitch. In his two innings of work, Boghosian gave up zero runs on three hits. To finish the game for the Spartans, redshirt-junior LHP Caleb Henley came on to pitch. In his one inning of work, Henley gave up zero runs on one hit.

What did y'all think of the win? Who wins the game MVP?
