During Coach Brian Gregory's home visit to Lammer's San Antonio house Ben surprised coach with a commit, only a week after he cut his list down to 3. The 6'10", 220lb center is known for playing with his back to the basket. He has been compared to Daniel Miller's playing style, and I believe that his sort of play fits in well with Gregory's game play. The best part about him is that while he is already 220lbs, he can put on more mass.
Other schools pursuing Lammer were Miami and Marquette, however Ben's interest in engineering attracted him to Tech in the end. He will also get early playing time at Tech, which is always desirable for young players.
This is a key pick up for the Yellow Jackets, as Daniel Miller and Kammeon Holsey will be graduating leaving only Robert Carter Jr. as a true big. Robert Sampson wants to get out of the post and Quinton Stephens is too small to play down low. The ideal situation would be for Gregory to add another man to the post during this recruiting class. He has one scholarship left to use.
Lammers joins Tadric Jackson, a 4 Star #2 guard in the Jackets 2014 recruiting class. As for Lammers accolades, he is a 3 Star PF/C ranked as No. 19 recruit out of the state of Texas and is consider by some as a top 20 center in the nation.
Let's all welcome Ben Lammers to the Tech family!
