GT Athletics released the Pre-Fall-Practice depth chart today, a copy of which you can find here. There are a few things that stuck out to me:
- Jamal Golden isn't starting. This struck me as a "you only have so many spots on the field" kind of thing at first, but then I got to thinking this might be a "protecting the team's most valuable return man" kind of thing too.
- Francis Kallon is buried down at third at Tackle. This would've surprised if I'd never seen Patrick Gamble (who beat Kallon and Adam Gardner out for the backup slot at DT) in person before. He is very large, as is Kallon, but Gamble's game is probably a little more refined since he has more experience. To be honest though I was kind of hoping for a meteoric rise from Kallon that resulted in half the defensive line owing fealty to the crown. Alas, it was not to be.
- There are obviously injuries that will cause guys to move around on the chart, but where will the true freshman fit in? In particular, will Harrison Butker take the starting job at kicker?
- There is quite the dearth of receivers. QUITE the dearth. This scares me more than anything else, because we all know what happens to this offense when no one on the team can catch.
What do you think folkses? See anything interesting?
