The ups, the downs, the Jeremi Halls, the Travis Custis', it all stops here. Here in the Edge Center's conference room, at this time, there is nothing left to do but wait. Keep it here Yellow Jackets, as this is the thread we'll be bringing you all your NSD action, live. Letters as commits come in, commit analysis, news of guys on the fence, all that fun stuff; we'll be here until the shop closes. We're also be breaking commitments live on Twitter as they happen, so keep it locked there if you're the super-ADD type. Thanks for listening. Its gonna be a hell of a ride.
Signee #1: Travis Custis (Lovejoy HS, Lovejoy, GA), 6'0" 205...Instrumental in Lovejoy's march to the GA HS 6A title game, the 4-star Custis was Tech's first commit for the 2013 class. Had offers from Ole Miss, Tennessee, and Wisconsin, among others. Projected at B-Back. FILM
Signee #2: Paul Davis (Cairo HS, Cairo, GA), 5'10" 200...Hard-hitting, sure-tackling player described as a cross between Julian Burnett and Jemea Thomas, and wowed coaches at Tech's summer camp. Not heavily offered likely because of height as a Safety/OLB, he was formerly committed to Temple. Projected at Safety, OLB, B-Back, or A-Back. FILM
Signee #3: Ty Griffin (McEachern HS, Kennesaw, GA), 6'0" 190...Junior year injury limited his exposure, but has great measurables (4.49 40-yard, 35" vertical) and versatility. Had late offers from UNC and Wake Forest. Will start at QB, but could move to safety if it doesn't work out. FILM
Signee #4: Harrison Butker (The Westminster School, Atlanta, GA), 6'3" 170...Strong-legged Kicker prospect who has legit touchback distance, and FG accuracy in long kicks. Has that Scott Blair-ish late draw on his kicks (just an observation). Could make immediate impact in 2013, as the kicking job is always open. Hopefully he closes it. FILM
Signee #5: John Marvin (Fort Walton Beach HS, Fort Walton Beach, FL), 6'1" 188...Marvin also had offers from Kentucky, Maryland, and Louisville. Projected at Safety or CB, and could return kicks. He's got a 4.6 40, so I wouldn't pen him to beat Broderick Snoddy out for that job. FILM
Signee #6: Ricky Jeune (St. Joseph's HS, Montvale, NJ), 6'3" 205...The 3-star Jeune high jumps in HS, and also had offers from Purdue and Rutgers. Projected at WR. Plays a lot like BayBay, in that he can go get the jump ball. If he beefs up a little bit, he could be our next great receiver. Great postion battle shaking out between this guy, Autry, and Travin Henry. FILM
Signee #7: Antonio Messick (Fayette County HS, Fayetteville, GA), 6'3" 185...The 3-star (ESPN) Messick wowed Tech coaches at their July camp and knew it was where he wanted to play. Projected at WR. Another guy with great ball skills, but he's kind of slow. Could be critical in fades to the back corner of the end zone, but if he doesn't get faster he might not see the field much. FILM
Signee #8: Kevin Robbins (Bishop McNamara HS, Forestville, MD), 6'4" 235...HS teammate of Darius Commissiong. The 3-star Robbins' father (Kevin Sr.) played at Michigan State and in the NFL. Projected at DE in the 4-3. He had 15 other offers, including Michigan State, but turned them all down to come to Tech. FILM
Signee #9: Donovan Wilson (Jerome HS, Dublin, OH), 6'0" 205...Already enrolled at Tech, the 3-star Wilson once rushed for 424 yards in a game. His brother Cameron Wilson plays for the Iowa Hawkeyes. Projected to play A-Back. FILM
Signee #10: Chris Griffin (Wakulla HS, Crawfordville, FL), 6'6" 275...A 3-star OL prospect with offers from Vanderbilt and Clemson, Griffin is also his region's Heavyweight champion in HS wrestling. Projected at OT in the Spread Option. Coach McCollum had a lot to say about this young man. "Country, mean as hell...loves to fish, loves to hunt." Coach McC wasn't kidding, he eats through defenders and loves to hit. He's also on his way to being the state champion in his wrestling weight class, so I'd say it was quite a pick up. A haughty middle finger to all the programs that tried to pick him off in the last two weeks. FILM
Signee #11: Justin Akins (Jackson HS, Jackson, GA), 6'5" 235...The 3-star Akins had offers from Clemson, Nebraska, and Ole Miss. Projected at either DE or DT in the 4-3 depending on development, but outside rush end is more likely. FILM
Signee #12: Darius Commissiong (Bishop McNamara HS, Forestville, MD), 6'2" 285...HS teammates with Kevin Robbins, the 3-star Commissiong had late offers from Ohio State, Tennessee, and Clemson. Projected at DT in the 4-3. His biological mother died recently, but that didn't stop him from having a stellar season and recruitment. FILM
Signee #13: Corey Griffin (Sandy Creek HS, Tyrone, GA), 6'2" 195...DB physical enough to play on 1st down, but can play in nickel/dime packages. Very versatile. He has played in 3 state championship games and won two of them. Projected to play at either S or LB, depending on where he fits (probably safety).
Signee #14: Shamire Devine (Tri-Cities HS, Atlanta, GA), 6'6" 360...Arguably the best OT prospect in the state of Georgia, the 4-star Devine also boasted offers from Florida, USCw, FSU, and others. Projected to play OG in the Spread Option. Devine is probably the biggest get of this class. He would be the only unanimous 4-star, but ESPN knocked him down to a 3-star once he committed to Tech. Figures, according to Paul Johnson. FILM
We'll have an NSD wrap-up after I eat lunch. Get ready to read the most Paul Johnson Quotes you've ever read, or listen to them right here. Trust me, its worth the listen.
(Don't forget, Nate will be over-analyzing this stuff to death tonight at 6pm on 91.1FM (in Atlanta) and on WREK.org/listen (everywhere).)
