Georgia Tech rumored to be hiring a Special Teams Coach...
FP'd for drama factor. -Nate
Dave Walkosky from the Calgary Stampede of the CFL...just posting it but not really validated yet.
"He spent eight seasons at Toledo, his alma mater, and the Rockets had a winning record each year he was on the coaching staff. Walkosky worked in several capacities with the Rockets — handling linebackers, defensive backs and special teams at various times — and Toledo won six division titles, two Mid-American Conference championships and appeared in four bowl games during this period.
In 2006, Toledo’s defence allowed the fewest points and fewest yards in the conference. In 2003, when Walkosky was handling special teams, the Rockets were third in the nation in punt returns and fifth in net punting."

Well...
…if true, I hope it works. If he can start in time for Spring practice he might have time to get his schemes and techniques taught for this season, right? That gives him Spring practice, Fall camp and then game practices to work with. Add that and the fact that the NCAA just made kickoffs a little easier for the kickers AND the fact that we have Rodwell coming in on scholarship. ST’s could be fun. Also, this would free up position coaches to go “pure” on their own systems. The drawback is the players have to accept a new coach and learn his techniques and schemes.
If he’s hired I think it’s a wait-and-see situation in terms of being super pumped about it, in my opinion.

See no downside to this if true . . .
It gives us one more coach who is a “specialist” in his area of expertise. The players will warm quickly to someone who is confident in his system. Besides, they still will have face time with their other favorite coaches.

"Drawback"
I guess I was thinking it would be a drawback only in terms of time spent. But maybe if that same amount of practice time is already getting devoted to ST’s anyway, then putting one guy in charge of the whole show could be smarter. I really hope this gives position coaches (who used to each have a role in ST’s) more time to analyze and plan for their specific position duties.

says he's already been hired... interesting
Also wish people didn’t assume that we are “Georgia Tech University”… just shows ignorance.

I don't think I've told this story before
In my first year at Tech, the 2008 football season, I was in the front ensemble of the marching band (AKA the pit, which consists of all the percussion that you can’t march with). the first game, against Jack State, there was some ceremony about like the 75th anniversary of some sugar bowl, including a commemorative football. While we were setting up for pregame, some lady involved in the ceremony was running around with the football looking flustered. The reason? Right there on the football, where everyone watching the Jumbotron would see, were the words “GEORGIA TECH UNIVERSITY”. Terrible. In the end, they still used that football but both people involved just covered up the words. Pretty hilarious.
It is on par with
people believing that “North Avenue Trade School” was actually ever a real name for Tech. It’s just a wholesale lack of familiarity…or a catastrophic failure to recognize the details.

I know he isn't Canadian by birth...
but could the guy have more Canadian name than “Walkosky”???

I also think...
that this is a first step in the DC transition plan from CAG to either this guy or CCK (Charles Kelly – who I really like and I hope we promote).

I'd rather we hire an offensive coordinator who specializes in the passing game and the shotgun formation.
And who is good with O-lineman. Ralph Friedgen!
If we did that
We would officially have the oldest, bitterest coaching staff in the universe.
