Alabama's Recruiting Tactics
Seems that part of the reason that we weren't able to sign Dalvin Tomlinson is because a spot just magically 'opened up' at Alabama, as they tend to do from time to time....

The question to CPJ was, "Would you like an earlier signing period?"
He then proceeded to describe these kinds of unnecessary dramas that happen as a result of the current system. What a crying, f——— , shame. When are adults going to quit doing this to kids? It makes me sick to my stomach.

Tomlinson still may be left out in the cold
If you look at how many defensive linemen Alabama already has lined up. It would make me very uneasy.

They've signed about 25 in the last 5 years. And that's not an exaggeration.

Where did that spot open up?
Seems like Philon didn’t actually have one, so him leaving shouldn’t have opened any up….
For what it’s worth, ESPN lists Bama as having 26 signees, which I believe is one over the SEC mandated limit.

Oh, and I have a Twitter.
Where's the teeth?
What is the penalty for oversigning? i.e. 26>25
Doesn't count as 26 because some are early enrolled and counted towards last year's class.

Nick doesn't care about the players
Yeah nick saban took away a scholarship from kid at the last minute to get Dalvin that is the real problem here. He is a good coach but a bad person. He is as bad as colorado getting 5 downs just like he got 2 chances to beat LSU.
This is getting even more fishy.
Now Tomlinson is saying that he was committed to Alabama all along and Tech and Georgia were never in it. Everyone speaks of his good character but this begs the question of why he strung Coach Speed along right up until the week before signing day forcing Tech to keep a scholarship open for him. And why did he have three caps on the table and briefly touch Tech’s on signing day? People with good character do not usually engage in drama for the sake of drama.
I am willing to believe that maybe Tech and Georgia were never in this but why did Tomlinson not just come out early and say he was going to Alabama? He could have even done early enrollment if that is who he wanted all along. My hunch is that if he had committed as early as he said he had other schools would have begged off. I believe CMR and CPJ when they say in so many words that they do it like this. “I see that you are committed to Alabama but we would love to have you come visit so we could tell you about our school. No? O.K. then, congratulations and best wishes to you for your future.”

It was Tech's choice to leave a scholarship open for him.
He never committed until signing day, so he was holding out on everybody.

We had several spots open though...
We could’ve signed upwards of 20 this year, in all likelihood the longer it played out the less it favored Tech. Dalvin was stringing everybody along (this is my opinion only) because I’m sure in the back of his mind he was playing out the numbers himself. It was going to be like this for Alabama on NSD in order, with only 2 getting the spots…
1) Eddie Goldman
2) Korren Kirven
3) Dalvin Tomlinson
If the knowledge that Goldman was probably not coming to Alabama was what put the smile on DT’s face the Friday before NSD, it still seems the act of waiting until the morning of NSD to make his choice was still a hedge on the possibility that Goldman could still change his mind.
If that’s the case, and a potential spot at Alabama was preferrable to a solid one at GT with lots of early playing time…with all the bogus innuendo of academics being a deciding factor in his decision…I say good luck to him. He made the choice he wanted to, and in the end, we should only want kids who want to be at our respective schools.

And one more thing . . .
Tomlinson has implied that the only school that treated him fairly was Alabama even though he has never been specific. His high school coach backs him in saying that he was committed to Alabama all along but then he turns around and says that Tomlinson did not come clean with Tech until the very last week.
When asked about Tech Tomlinson only said that they spoke of how Alabama’s numbers were not adding up -just a caution about how many scholarships they may or may not have available and that Tech was holding one open for him.
The last minute gray shirt offer to the other lineman who had been openly committed to Alabama for almost a year seemed to come around the same time we started hearing that Tech was no longer in the lead for Tomlinson and that Alabama had now entered the picture.

Last but not least . . .
It may sound like sower grapes to say this but Tomlinson’s comments raise questions for me about his character and I am now convinced that it is probably a good thing that he did not come to Tech.

That's probably
the best attitude to have. I’ll have forgotten all about him at this time next year. Then again, my wife says that I have a bad memory in the first place, so it’s probably no surprise.
