Catching Up With Georgia Tech Basketball

The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets are in their final stretch of the basketball season. The combination of a non-traditional home court and a lackluster season makes it easy to push the basketball season out of our awareness. However, as a loyal supporters of Georgia Tech athletics, we need to make sure we know what's going on.

Georgia Tech is currently 9-15 with a 2-8 conference record. A positive to be found out of this is that one of those two conference wins was on the road (at NC State) and we know how hard it can be to win on the road in the ACC.

The remaining schedule looks like this:

2/15: @Wake Forest - Georgia Tech has not played Wake Forest yet this season. The Demon Deacons are currently 11-14 and 2-9 in the ACC.

2/18: @Virginia Tech - Georgia Tech has not played Virginia Tech this season. The Hokies are currently 14-11 overall and 3-7 in the ACC.

2/21: vs. Clemson - Previous meeting: Clemson 64 Tech 62. Yellow Jackets had a tremendous second-half comeback to fall just short. Clemson is 12-12 overall and 4-6 in the ACC.

2/25: vs. Maryland - Previous meeting: Maryland 61 Tech 50. Maryland is 14-10 overall and 4-6 in the ACC.

2/29: @ Boston College- Previous meeting: Boston College 47 Tech 51. This was Tech's only home ACC win. The Eagles are 8-17 overall and 3-8 in the ACC.

3/03: vs. Wake Forest - Regular season finale.

Georgia Tech is currently in 11th place out of 12 teams. Wake Forest is the lone team below the Jackets. This could bode well for Tech with two games scheduled against the Deacs coming soon. In fact, if the right pieces fall into place, Tech has the opportunity to create some end-of-season, last second momentum. All teams on the remaining schedule: Maryland, Clemson, Virginia Tech, Boston College, and Wake Forest make up rest of the bottom half of the Atlantic Coast Conference. This gives the Yellow Jackets a fighting chance for some record and standings improvement.

Go Jackets!

I agree.

The top half of the conference is bound for the NCAA Tournament, so any win we get against those teams is an upset. I like the progress our team is making. 5 or 6 ACC wins are possible, with an outside shot at 7.

When I look at what BG has done, it makes me think we could have been a decent team with Oliver in the rotation. Oh, well. Maybe his disenchantment would have been a net minus.

The incoming class looks good. I would like to see a PG in the mix, but otherwise I am happy with the coaching change and where we are headed. I am thinking we should be an NIT team next season and back to the NCAAs in 2014.

defense

we has it. I couldn’t believe my eyes the first time I saw it. It is for this sole reason that this hire makes me happy.

Not count . . . chickens . . hatch . . thing, but

I too believe in this hire, the direction Tech is going, and, what I believe, was one of the best recruiting classes in a long time. Which reminds me, when are we going to see an article on this nationally ranked (I believe) recruiting class?

We need a resurgence of ACC dominance.

Beyond DOOK and Ramses, the ACC kinda suxs, Free Shoes upsets notwithstanding.

Hopefully the new coaching blood will stimulate an 80’s, 90’s level of Conference wide excellence.

You are so right

The ACC is an average conference at best and shows signs of becoming a total waste bin of college hoops if trends don’t change.

NC State will probably make noise in the next few years...

They have a great team now, plus they are adding 2-3 McDonald’s HA All American recruits next year.

I actually have hope for us to be in the top half of the ACC next year and beyond given our incoming recruiting class plus Stacey Poole.
