I survived this weekend, barely.

The weekend of lost joy was endured by most of us. But not all.

The Falcons shut out the Giants and the Tech Finals week came to an end. My college freshman made As and Bs her first semester at Ga Southern. I finished my Christmas shopping. My priest acknowledged the state of my emotions. But, too many in Newtown are unable to find any joy this weekend. They lost their first grader. Forever. There is no joy that will overcome this kind of loss. I have four grand children the ages of these victims. I cannot imagine the grief these parents and grandparents feel right now.

May we never underestimate the value of our safety and good fortune. You were not seven years old and living in that bucolic town in rural Connecticut on Friday. Thank whatever god you pray to. There is no game as important.
