Just like certain football teams, I had a comfortable lead going into the fourth quarter
Then I went 0 for nothing on January 2, except for Houston vs. Penn State. If I had just picked all SEC teams I would have maintained my lead. Heck, if I had just closed my eyes and picked teams I would have done better. If you want to know what I was thinking my “logic” went like this.
Florida had shown virtually no offense this year and I felt like this in addition to having had a disappointing season meant they would not show up for the Ohio State game. I thought we would see a worse performance even than they put up against FSU.
I really thought South Carolina would have a major fail after their disappointing season and that Nebraska would be motivated to prove something. Wrong again. In hindsight this was the stupidest of my picks.
I thought that the usual rhythm and timing issues that effect teams like Oregon and Tech would be enough to give Wisconsin a slim win over the Ducks. It was a slim margin all right but in the Ducks’ favor.
If Stanford kicks the game winning field goal then my prediction in that game makes sense. Ditto for Georgia missing the game winning field goal. In both cases I think my instincts were on target but things like this happen. Just ask Tech about missing winning field goals.
And I had such a fine record up until yesterday.

I picked Florida, Houston, Nebraska, Oregon, OK State, Michigan State
Although yesterday was talking to someone and really thought Ohio State would win, with how self-destructive Florida’s been. I ended up with the right pick, but one thing to think about is that 14 of their 24 points weren’t offensive, between a blocked punt and a kick return.
On OK State and Michigan State I was blessed that the opposing kickers missed game-winners at the end of regulation in each, and ultimately ended up deciding them. I feel like the OK State matchup was a little closer, with MSU just being good enough to hang around and win via uga self-imploding at the end.
Oregon had an outstanding offensive performance in a game that was tighter than the 7-point margin of victory suggests, I think.
Houston dominated Penn State from what I understand, though I didn’t watch.
I really thought that South Carolina’s offense wouldn’t be consistent enough to beat Nebraska. And really, they would have been down 4 at the half if they hadn’t gotten a hail mary, which may have also done a little to deflate the Nebraska defense. Wrong there.

So why do you think Winfield and Bird suck so badly at picking teams?
One would think that with all of that deep analysis they do that they would be at the top of the leader board.

And if I thought about it hard enough I might decide to really give them crap about that.

I have 20 points, though I'm not pictured (under the name of Oldgold)
But I can’t remember a year where a missed or made field goals could have swayed the results of 6 or 7 games.
"We did a lot of good things last year, and now we've got Julio ... That does nothing but improve the offense, and we expect to do better. That's our goal, to lead the NFL in everything. Every offensive category." -Roddy White
One interesting tidbit:
I was looking at the overall leaders on the Yahoo site, and in straight picks there were a couple who were something like 25/26, having missed only one. Interestingly, most of the ones I looked at who had only missed one or two, guess which one they missed?
HINT: Rhymes with “Fun Soul”, and is currently is a source of misery for most who read this site.

I wouldn't say that but what I would say is . . .
that in several bowl games this year teams have unleashed both option attacks and cut blocks. I am seeing more and more of CPJ showing up in other people’s play books. I have even seen some counter plays that look like they were designed more in the Tech style than in the more conventional style.

Perhaps VEER Option
is the more proper term than 3Option.
Lots of pitch to the outside, and Robinson can fly. Appreciated seeing the cut blocks and even a chop block call!

The other thing I have noticed this year is that this was the year of the special team fail
How many field goals did Alabama miss against LSU? How many games have you watched this year in which a winning field goal was missed? Or a game was lost on some special team flub up?
And last night Virginia Tech, supposed kings of special team play, had four major special team foul ups through the course of the game, any one of which may have cost them the game and that is not counting their final missed field goal.

Agreed
Everybody needs kickers except the Blacksburg, VA inmate squad.

Something I was definitely noticing
Seriously, how hard is it to find people who can kick a football through the uprights from <50 yards away? There seem to be so many major programs suffering from young or otherwise ineffective kickers, and with the (seeming) simplicity of that position it makes no sense.
Even Blair Walsh at uga, forever heralded as the SEC’s all-time leading scorer and one of the better kickers to ever play the game in college, has had a miserable 60% season. That’s worse than his freshman year when he was hitting just over 65%. He kicked field goals in 12 games this year, and in only 2 of those games was he perfect.
