Junior Gnonkonde gets his scholarship pulled
Sounds kinda fishy. I am sure there are details that are not known and are not being reported.
Sucks for the kid.

School and coaches can't talk about the issue
so the family has the microphone on this.

I think I know the reason.
I have a high school senior applying to college this year, so I have some knowledge of the timing. The last SAT test that would get results to colleges before National Signing Day was December 3rd, with scores being sent to colleges around the first of the year. My girl got her scores online about that time. Also, first semester grades were posted on transcripts and sent to colleges the first week in January.
That means the admissions office had to make a decision based on what it had at that time. I bet his previous scores/grades combination were too low for Tech, but OK for the NCAA minimum. It’s possible his December SAT scores did not improve things enough.
Actually, I think Tech did him a favor by telling before National Signing Day. They could have told him to retake the test in March with hope, yet again, of making the necessary improvements. That would have reduced his chances of getting into his second or third choice college.
They also could have spent the scholarship on him and played him on special teams for the Fall semester, knowing full well he was not likely to be eligible after Christmas. He would have then lost a year, since the NCAA requires him to sit out a season, even if he transferred due to grades.

It sucks, and I wonder if the minimum req's are this rigid for everyone...
Gnonkonde’s story was similar to Kallon’s…kids who came to America in their teens not knowing anything about football and making themselves into D1 football recruits.

Yeah school's reason is your SAT is no good. Do better.
He’s retaking it this month supposedly and if he does better plans to still come. But CPJ did call UCF for him.
Unfortunate for several reasons but . . .
my hunch is that the school will not be saying a whole lot more because, even if there is more information that would make the school look better, they really are interested in making sure this kid gets in somewhere and gets on with his life. They know this is a blow to him and they don’t want to make it worse by piling on.
Most people at some time in their life will have a test, evaluation or score that temporarily sidetracks their dream. It hurts but it is life.

Mid term grades?
Senior year “slack off”, or not taking enough hours/credits?
Fulton County schools allowed Seniors a lot of latitude late 70’s/ early 80’s on light load in order to work (drink, party, neck) Senior year, until UVA cut a bunch of Academic Schollys 6 months before school started when they learned folks were only in school 1/2 time.
Could be like Bowl Game disease when starters are ineligible as 1st Semester grades come out.
