Happy Friday The 13th. Here's Your List Of Questions

via www.paranormalknowledge.com
1. I have not seen a singly Friday the 13th movie. Have I missed out?
2. Georgia State basketball coach Ron Hunter went shoeless for charity last night as the Panthers beat UNC-Wilmington. What would you think if Brian Gregory went barefoot one night?
3. I enjoy reading other non-sports blogs, most notably Put This On - A Web Series About Dressing Like A Grownup. What other blogs do you read?
Happy Friday everybody! Go Jackets!

Friday the 13th
They’re pretty good, 80s slasher movies. After the first couple, it went downhill and got pretty cheesy in the later ones. I’d recommend the original 1980 movie, and perhaps through Part 3 or 4, but going beyond that would just be for **its and giggles.
You are too infused with post "Halloween", "Alien", and "FT13" tortu-porn (Saw, Hostel, etc)
movies to be much more than amused by 80’s slashers. Back in the day however, Hockey Masks were as frightening as say, Mannequins or a GT Inbounds play.
No shoes? Well, as long as he doesn’t wear flip flops, I’m OK with it. How much was raised?

This is SO WRONG in SO MANY WAYS
Blogs: FordBarn (Model A’s), Chevy Talk (Late Great Impalas), Patrick O’Brian Discussion Forum (very high brow, much Euro-centric-you should have read how I made them tear each other up over “Iron Lady”, and "Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy), EDSBS when I can stand it.

All Things Horrible
1. Not a fan of the 13th movies. I am very picky about my horror and tend to not like any movie that relies on lots of blood or sudden startling moments to drum up a fear rush. Psychological horror works much better with me.
2. Love the charity but tend to think it should not be mixed with one’s regular job for a host of reasons. Still applaud any coach who tries to help others outside of his profession.
3. My marked favorites include Tech sites, running sites, news sites (including Al Jazeera) but the site I seem to go to the most regularly deals with Urban Legends and Internet Rumors

I find that whether it is over the internet, through email or out in the market place of ideas, the stuff that has the most traction is the stuff that just plain ain’t true. I am constantly bringing people down off the ceiling who think their world is coming to an end through government death panels or some new law that is going to take away their Bibles.

Amen, brother!
I also read a lot political stuff. I am a Keynesian Econ grad, so I enjoy reading Paul Krugman and Brad DeLong. The Chicago School of economics and the Austrian school are just plain wrong. I try to avoid sites that are constantly touting things that later become urban legends.
For years my favorite blog was ACCBasketBlog, but they have pretty much abandoned it the last two years.

I know we are supposed to watch the political stuff on this site and not get anything controversial stirred up but I have to say I find the Austrian school just plain wacko. I get the willies when anyone follows something like a cult. Truth is way too nuanced to fit into a neat and tidy box like that. It usually requires that at some point you forget how to add 2 plus 2.
I am through preaching for now.

The problem is that people who believe that stuff
want to believe it. If they were interested in facts, they wouldn’t fall for that stuff in the first place.
I have not seen any Friday the 13th movie. I like horror movies, but not the slasher kind that most seem to be. I almost went to see the third one, in 3D, because I went to see most of those early ’80s 3D movies, but I decided against it at the last minute. (I also missed Jaws 3D for some reason, but I did see Parasite and Space Hunter: Adventures in the Forbidden Zone at the Rialto. That theater now belongs to Georgia State and is part of their performing arts school, but, at the time, it was an awesome place to see a movie if you wanted to experience audience participation (people yelling at the screen).)

For blogs
I subscribe through Google Reader to Word Spy, Ralfy Mitchell’s Whisky Reviews (they are incredibly entertaining even if you don’t drink whisky), and the Museum of Hoaxes. I subscribe to but only occasionally read EDSBS and Gizmodo because I just can’t keep up.
I subscribe to probably an unhealthy number of Web comics and “funny picture” blogs.

This is not a blog, but a NY Times columnist has taken on the NCAA big time.

Good article about a broken system
I think those transfer rules were originally put in place as a way to “build a fence” around potential abuses. I am sure at one time the NCAA imagined that schools would get into “bidding wars” each season trying to lure star players from one school to another. Sitting out a year was especially an attempt to preempt some school stealing their rival’s best player and then turning around and using that player against them. I think what we now understand is that the chances of these abuses happening were never that great. The NCAA instituted draconian rules to deal with a very minor potential problem and ended up taking the “student” right out of student-athlete.
