I don't think that's how he meant it.

Just that they can tell men of character from ones who are more lacking in it, and that the guy’s character is more of a factor in his spot on the recruiting board than other places, who may just see that he’s an absurdly good athlete.

Was there any indication when he was here, or in High School

of this type of behavior?

I don’t recall any incidents or suspicions before his signing, or while he was with the team.

Let the barking begin...

Looks like we can add Crittenton to the (favorably short) list of names that people in Red or Orange love to remind us of. Usually on the list – Joe “DUI” Hamilton, Reuben “Kilo” Houston, Robert “Door Jam” Hall, Chris “GTU” Bosh, and Reggie “Count to 4” Ball.

We like to come back with stories of the good’uns, so here’s my shortlist of the best of those – Calvin “Megatron” Johnson, Demaryus “Rags to Riches, Helping Local Kids [Bay Bay]” Thomas, Sean “Aerospace, Walk-on/All-ACC, Patent Law” Bedford, Albert “Microsoft” Rocker, Tevin “Legal Intern” Washington, Darryl “MBA” Roberts, Tashard “ANAK society” Choice, Roddie “Mr. All Everything” Jones. And that’s purely football and purely recent.

All things considered, Tech has so few players with embarrassing stories, but shooting and killing a bystander in a revenge drive-by would be a rough one to have reflecting back on GT Athletes (however indirectly it may be). I’m ready for the barking from neighbors and frenemies….

Thanks for helping me understand that earlier comment from Jason

I confess that it went right over my head. I was making a darkly humorous and ironic comment about how this tragic incident is so contrary to how Tech wants to present itself. I think I see now how this for some people will be one more stone to throw at Tech.

One thing has always bothered me about the jabs at Reggie Ball. When he made his classic blunder the guys holding the yard markers still had 3rd down listed. I know he should have ignored the down marker and kept up with the downs himself but it was a tense time pressure situation in which he was having to think about several things at the same time. I probably would have done the same thing and I even managed to get a high school diploma. :-)

Of course if I were to take the attitude that some of the “barkers” that you referred to take, I could point out that the guys holding the wrong down maker up were Georgia graduates. :-)
