How The $100,000 Monetary Fine Impacts The Georgia Tech Athletic Department
Interesting article that further shows how ludicrous the idea of vacating a championship really is anyways.
Quote:
In fiscal year 2008, Georgia Tech posted a $3.4 million operating loss in the athletic department. In fiscal year 2009 and 2010, respectively, the athletic department saw profits of $306,508 and $284,117. That means they’re being fined roughly 1/3rd of their total operating profits. Consider if you were fined a third of your yearly salary.

Let's see, one third of my annual salary lost . . .
Well, I wouldn’t exactly be sleeping under a bridge but it would mean that a lot of my charitable contributions and social obligations to others would be eliminated entirely. Quality of life would be reduced to zero. People who count on me would be severely impacted.
I would imagine that how this would translate for Tech would mean a bare bones program that has no monetary leeway for doing those things that keep an athletic program building for the future and not sliding further behind other schools. Student satisfaction might even drop in some instances. And, as in my individual case, Tech probably will have to dip into other accounts, further weakening the overall institution and its programs.

Worth noting...
Our profits should be considerably different this season with the ESPN money coming onto the table.
That being said, Gailey is off the books, Hewitt + Gregory are on the books for bball and we’ll be paying additional costs for renting locations to play bball during construction (I don’t know if rental fees were included into the overhead cost of that project).
Not saying it isn’t substantial, but it will be curious how our books clear at the end of the season.
