Over this past week Georgia Tech Baseball went 4-0 with a sweep of Illinois-Chicago and a Tuesday win over Savannah State. The bats were alive averaging 8.5 runs a game while the arms were still smoking allowing only 2 runs a game and 7.5 K's per game, although 12 of the 30 were in Tuesday's game against Savannah St. It was a very solid week and hopefully a sign of steadiness as we finish up the regular season.
Looking ahead we have a weekend series against UNC at home, a mid-week game at home hosting East Tennessee State, ending with a road series at VPI. GT currently sits in second place in the Coastal Division, only two games behind Virginia and followed closely by Miami (1.5 games back of GT) and UNC (2 games back), and looking to get one of the top spots in the ACC Tournament. Interestingly enough, all four teams have seven games left and they all play each other in some way with Virgina having to play both UNC and Miami. With only four games separating all four teams, that's a great race to end the season. Virginia has only lost five total games, four of which were ACC loses, so for at least six games we'll all be Miami and UNC fans. Ok, maybe not Miami fans, haha!
Outside of first place, the next thing Tech should try to lock up is one o the top four guaranteed spots. In that case, the magic number is six as it currently stands. That doesn't leave a lot of room for error, but I faith in the team to do what needs to be done. I won't go so far as to say that it's impossible, but the chances of Miami sweeping Virginia this weekend are not very high.
Overall, this has been a stellar season considering the number of freshmen on this team. I'm ready and excited for the post season to begin. Thoughts?
