One thing I really like

If you look at what the Dayton fans are saying on their blogs there are very few people saying “good riddance.” The majority of people are truly disappointed that he is leaving.

I'm not sure which sites you've checked out but

BlackburnReview.com and UDPride.com are the two sites I follow. The former is predominantly anti-Gregory and fairly glad he is gone. The latter is pretty much split between those who thought Gregory was great for the program and if given a few more years would’ve corrected his flaws and done whatever and what not and those who thought Gregory was in over his head and wanted him gone.

As a follower of the UD program I am quite glad to see him go. If you want my candid honesty, I was hoping either you guys or NC State would hire him because I truly believe he won’t pose too big of a threat to FSU. Personally, I think a guy like Blaine Taylor (age 53) of Old Dominion has a much better resume. And he’s apparently only making $200K and change. He’s one of several coaches I hope Dayton looks at that I’m surprised you guys either didn’t target or were unable to land. I really have no idea why Mooney didn’t come to GT.

I assure you I did not come here to antagonize and if you want to know my thoughts on Gregory’s tenure and why I don’t think he’s that great of a coach I’ll be more than welcome to come back tomorrow and share them. Just an fyi, I grew up in Dayton. I’ve attended countless games of theirs over the years. My mom and several other relatives are alumni. I try to follow the program as best as I can for not living in the area.

As for fans not saying “good riddance,” well, they are saying other things. This is a picture of one of UD’s student house’s in “The Ghetto” on campus.

You guys are amateurs

Looking at the blogs about Hewitt I found maybe one in 50 people who supported him. Looking at Dayton blogs the worst one I found did not even come close.

Then there was one like this which would have been very positive for Hewitt even when he was winning:

UDPride, as I said, is the site with an equal amount of Gregory Kool Aid sippers as dissenters.

If GT fans were harsher towards Hewitt than congratulations. Dayton fans are a mild-mannered and patient bunch but there are definitely a great many that are glad to see him go.

Funny, I was just thinking about doing a blog comparison of fans

Tech fans fondly remember Bobby Cremins, and well they should. What they forget is that at the time he left he had more dissenters than Gregory currently has at Dayton. I do think you guys are more patient. As for Hewitt, even the most patient Dayton fan would be reduced to howling madness by now. Gregory will be a step up, believe me.

Just read the east coast bias article and it scared me

Some select quotes, does any of this sound like someone we know:

“The Flyers turn the ball over more (20.7% of their possessions, on average) than they force turnovers (19.1%)”
“They also allow teams to get to the line more than they get to the line”
“Maybe it’s because I only see 4-5 Dayton games on television (though I do follow the team out of curiosity), but I’m never sure quite what they are doing on offense in the half court”

Good write up though. I recommend reading it.

I'll reserve judgement.

CBG has a few years to establish his “brand” in Atlanta. He will have to recruit a rich area (ATL) where I don’t believe he has any ties. He will have his men playing in virtually empty Phillips Arena for a year.

Then he will have a state of the Art arena and practice facility.

My real hope is that he can bring in NBA quality recruits, but not “1 and dones” so that he can build a team with a better than 70% chance of beating anyone in the ACC on any given night.

Look at the senior leadership at Butler (my new favorite team this March) and what they did in that Heavyweight bout vs. Floriday.

CBC brought in the NBA quality, and they stayed (and here I show my age as I talk about the good old days!): Price, Spider, Harpring, Hammonds, etc. As a corollary, we were better in 2004 (I did the Bucket List thing sitting at the Half Court line in San Antonio) the year after Bosh went for the big contract.

I’d also like to see the stinging Defense that seems to be missing in the past few years. There is NOTHING better than to get the ACC Royalty (Hansborough, DOOK, Wake) players frustrated and pissed walking to the bench for a late game time out when a 6’4" Jacket has perched in their back pocket and in their grill for 40 minutes.

Now if we can only run the inbounds play under full court pressure without the 5 second call….

I’m upbeat and look forward to CBG coming on the road to talk to Alumni clubs and sharing his vision of the program and why I should drop my $$ on tickets and an 8 hour drive just to hear the roar of the Thunderdome Part Deaux.

I think the Jackets come to Savannah next season to play Savannah State. I’ll be there, First Class, sitting next to Vanna White…

I'll reserve judgement also

Meanwhile my abiding feeling at this moment is that is is an upgrade. When I check out Dayton blog sites I don’t see person after person complain that they didn’t even know how to inbound a pass or set up a play with the game on the line. As I posted above the blogs were surprisingly positive compared to Tech standards.

And the negative comments were in some cases

not unlike the complaints we heard this year about Paul Johnson, a case of some people reacting out of their inflated expectations for the season and the program, forgetting that overall the coaches trajectory was an improvement over some of the seasons in previous administrations.

But I am not trying to sell anyone on this coach, just saying let’s be fair while we wait to see what happens.

I think you should look at some of the game threads.

Try the home blowout loss to St. Louis at the end of the year when Dayton was clinging to any possible at-large hopes.
