Doug Wojcik To Interview For Georgia Tech Basketball Head Coaching Position
680 The Fan radio host Matt Chernoff commented on his radio show "Chuck and Chernoff" that he was told by the local CBS news affiliate that Tulsa head coach Doug Wojcik will be brought in for an interview for the open position here at Georgia Tech.
Wojcik played under Skip Prosser in high school and with David Robinson at the Naval Academy. After serving his time in the military, he returned to be an assistant at Navy from 1990-1999. Other positions include Notre Dame (1999-2000), North Carolina (2000-2003), and Michigan State (2003-2005).
Doug Wojcik has been at Tulsa since 2005. His current record is 87-54 overall and has taken Tulsa from what was an 9-win team in 2004-2005 to a 19-13 team in 2010-2011. Georgia Tech has about $1.2-$1.5 million to spend on a head coach, not enough to woo someone away on $$$ alone. Wojcik may fit the build...he's young, only 46, and has turned a team around in a mid-major conference.
Many fans are on the Shakka Smart and Richmond bandwagon. While I too may want to jump into one of those camps, don't be too quick to shun another coach who just isn't riding a current hot streak.
