Georgia Tech Coaching Search: Elite 8

Based on the comments from readers yesterday regarding the next head coach at Georgia Tech, we have broken out 8 of the named coaches. We're gonna try and break down their resumes and look at the pros and cons of each coach. And of course, we're gonna vote on 'em...Here's the list broken down with the objective data:

Tubby Smith (Minnesota) - 20 years HC experience, 467-198 (0.702) overall record, 16 NCAA bids, 9 Sweet 16's or better seasons, 1 National Title.

Herb Sendek (AZ State) - 17 years HC experience, 342-231 (0.596) overall record, 7 NCAA bids, 1 Sweet 16.

Jeff Capel (unemployed) - 9 years HC experience, 82-51 (0.616) overall record, 3 NCAA bids, 1 Elite 8.

Greg Marshall (Wichita State) - 13 years HC experience, 247-130 (0.677) overall record, 7 NCAA bids.

Randy Bennett (St. Mary's) - 10 years HC experience, 203-107 (0.655) overall record, 3 NCAA bids, 1 Sweet 16.

Mike Anderson (Missouri) - 9 years HC experience, 200-97 (0.673) overall record, 5 NCAA bids, 2 Sweet 16's.

Anthony Grant (Alabama) - 5 years HC experience, 115-51 (0.691) overall record, 2 NCAA bids.

Mike Turgeon (Texas A&M) - 13 years HC experience, 248-156 (0.614) overall record, 5 NCAA bids, 1 Sweet 16.

Did anything change when we lined up some of the coaches against one another?

I went with Grant

I’ll post my breakdown later this afternoon on ATL Sports Dial.

None of the above

I doubt any of these are the new coach.

I went with Marshal because I heard he’s a guy that can develop talent

Anderson or Marshall

I love Anderson style of play and his results are wonderful. Also, big 6 experience is a plus. I just don’t think we can land him.

Marshall’s track record is incredible. He can clearly coach em up.

Who is the next "Bobby" type coach?

Great recruiter, pedigree (player), takes a mid-major beyond the schools dreams in the Dance or Conference Championships?

We will need a better X’s and O’s coach; sometimes it seemed CBC couldn’t coach his way out of a wet paper bag and Mark Price had to take over and instill confidence in the gameplan. It wasn’t unusual for the ’Reck to go 10 minutes into an ACC game and NOT score.
