Aaron Murray's Performance Compared to Last 10 Years

2002-2011 GT games where the opposing passer rating was over 140.

Out of 128 starting quarterbacks for Tech opponents since 2002, Aaron Murray's performance on Saturday was the 10th most efficient. He actually had a more efficient game last year... Any surprises on the list? Any questions or thoughts?

Matt Ryan is not on this list.

When he beat us in 2007 with 30-44 and 435 yards I said I had never seen a GT defense so helpless nor a QB so dominating. We were playing under John Tenuta’s “let’s blitz with all eleven guys” strategy, but Ryan just killed us. His rating might have been very high because the had quite a few throw away passes due to the blitz scheme we were using. The QB rating is vastly overrated. Winning is what matters. That said, Murray worked us over pretty well both years.

Typo:

“His rating might have been very high” should been, “His rating might not have been very high”

Is highly influenced by attempts. Also, he was 20th on the list

Did it occur to anyone....

That 29 of 128 games (almost 23%) is a TON for other teams to have passer ratings of over 140? Because it sure seems that way to me. I feel like that should be a good thing to start with fixing.

I think to really get a good feel

You would need to compare their qb rating when playing other common opponents. Oriental is correct, QB rating and other stats are irrelevant, W’s are what matters…which is what kills me about people hating on Tim Tebow. I hate FL and can’t say I’m a tebow fan, but he’s getting W’s for his team.

Could be a factor in the overall season though

Last 2 years, we’ve had 8 instances of opposing passers throwing that well, and in those games we’re 2-6 (0-4 last year, 2-2 this year). Improving the pass defense so that that’s 7-1 could mean that we go somewhere other than Shreveport last year, or it could mean that we end the regular season with 10 wins instead of 8.

Of those 29 games over a 10-year stretch, we’re 6-23….and it makes sense, because it’s hard to win when you’re getting diced up by the opposing QB with seemingly no answer.

Still wondering how the F

Kansas beat us last year. They really did have the game of their life against us. And can you tell I’m bored at work today?

Found some mistakes in my data

I wasn’t thorough enough…

26th – Phillip Rivers (2003) – 143.3 – W

It’s awesome to look back at some great players we have met in the ACC. Cowherd says it all the time that the best QB’s come from the little guys that play big schedules because they have to make split decisions. Also, consider when they’re successful they become THE leader of the team, which is typically lacking in leadership (i.e. bad head coaches). See Matt Schaub, Matt Ryan, Phillip Rivers, Charlie Whitehurst…
