We currently have a tie at #3 with Bama and Oregon. I gave the nod to Oregon since Bama played LSU tighter (at home). The ACCCG is looking to be the only match up of two top 10 teams in the +1 week of the regular season. Who wants to bet that won't be discussed on all the WWL? Winfield didn't vote so blame the poll looking normal on that. Booyah! In the face!
Jesse: I honestly didn't want to move Bama out of second even with the loss, but if there are any other teams that would give them a hard fight, it has to be OKST and Stanford, and since they are both undefeated, I moved them up to 2nd and 3rd respectively with Bama in 4th. Boise St, Oregon, Oklahoma, TCU, Arkansas, and Penn St round out the remainder of the top ten. Yes, Penn St. They have only one loss and it's to Bama. I can't fault them for that one. The rest don't really matter.
OrientalNC: I only ranked 21 teams this week. I know someone has to be in those final four spots, but I'll be damned if I know who they are. I have LSU, Oklahoma State, Oregon and Bama in my first four, but I am sure the Houston fans will be heard crying foul in the next few weeks. Perhaps with good reason. I watched Oregon overwhelm Stanford in a way I thought impossible, and Oklahoma State may be the best team in the country. None of these teams has a clear shot at the NC game. After the conference champions are decided, Houston could still slip in undefeated. It takes no imagination to see Bama defeat LSU, or Oklahoma to beat Oklahoma State, but Oregon would have to lose to USC, which is not likely to happen. If I were betting right now, I would think Oregon will be playing for the title again this year.
I will be in Durham hoping we can bounce back from the "punch" and beat Duke. It was very disheartening to see us give VPI the momentum at that point. We had them down and were about to get great field position with a confident offense. That play changed our season. We have to win out at this point to get back in my rankings.
