A win is a win
Writing this as Arkansas just scored the game winning TD to beat the Dawgs (thwg). How did Kansas beat us last week? They took a thrashing by southern miss (Southern Miss!!!) – scoring a late td in garbage time so the score was more respectable.
Our offense looked better today though – blocking on the perimeter was a lot better allowing for some big plays. Glad to get a road win in our division. We still need to be able to put more pressure on opp. QBs – not looking forward to playing Miami.
You identified the difference
…blocking. The blocking in this UNC game was much better than last week.
Unfortunately, the defense hasn’t really improved, which would explain the close score and increased heart rate at the end of the game. I have a feeling that this will be common for the first half of the season. This team really needs a nose tackle.
I still think our OL was getting beat up front a lot in the 1st half
Second half we really adjusted. Playcalling was GREAT today. Mixed it up. Got Allen the ball so he could get into a groove. Much easier pass plays: A-back crossing patters, receiver screen, etc…
Just a very good win in that we outplayed the Heels in the most important half of the game.
I write stuff From the Rumble Seat.
yes
I feel much better about this team. CPJ said he was glad to see the team fight so hard for a win.

We were definitely getting thrashed up front
on DEFENSE. At least in the first half. It was a wonder they quit running the ball because they got 4 yards per carry 80% of the time. Play calling was definitely outstanding today, and everything just looked like it was done well. We were fundamentally sound on offense, and the defense (though certainly not perfect) still did a good job of wrapping up a lot of times. Plus, in the fourth quarter they looked great, especially up front.
Tale of two halves
In the first half, the offensive line was playing okay, but the backs and receivers were really blocking well. In the second half, the offensive line was playing much better, but the backs and receivers were getting sloppy. That’s why we saw a lot of pitches going for big gains early, and then Allen and Nesbitt getting a lot of yards up the middle in the second half.
On defense, they played a little better in the second half, too. If not for a couple stops on defense, Tech would have lost that game by at least ten points.
Kansas beat us
the same way Tech beat Alabama in 1981. Tech played a perfect game that year but it was their only win of the entire season. Meanwhile, Alabama only lost one other game that season and was ranked nationally. It happens. Which is why I think too much has been made over some of the upsets this young season.
