The W% is simply Wins/Total Games so ties affect the winning percentage adversely.

As they should.

Further solidifies in my mind that Dodd was the greaatest Tech coach of all time with Heisman coming in a close second. Paul Johnson is too young in his coaching career at Tech to make any comparisons now but I say if he maintains a winning record against georgia (which is also a good indicator of how the rest of the season goes) and sticks around Tech for a long time his name should rest easily within the top three.

This win percentage stat

reveals who the best Tech coaches were. Only Heisman and Dodd were successful against UGA.

It’s slightly depressing to see all those numbers < 50%

Heisman wasn't under 50%

According to the numbers here, he was right at 50%, and so was McKee, since his only game was a tie.

When you have ties, you can’t just divide wins by games played and get the winning percentage.

Winning% = (wins+ties/2)/games.
