Nesbitt Named to Davey O'Brien Watch List

Per the Davey O'Brien Foundation:
The Davey O'Brien Foundation announced the 2010 Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award® (The O'Brien) Watch List today. This year's list, which was compiled by a subset of The O'Brien National Selection Committee, features 30 of the nation's top collegiate quarterbacks who were selected based on player performance during the previous year and expectations heading into the 2010 college football season.
Josh Nesbitt was named alongside four other ACC quarterbacks in Tyrod Taylor, Christian Ponder, Jacory Harris, and Russell Wilson. Joe Hamilton won the award in 1999. The Davey O'Brien foundation continues:
The Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award® (The O'Brien) is presented annually to the nation's best college quarterback and is the oldest and most prestigious national quarterback award. The O'Brien honors candidates who exemplify Davey O'Brien's enduring character while exhibiting teamwork, sportsmanship and leadership in both academics and athletics. The O'Brien is overseen by the Davey O'Brien Foundation, which is headquartered in Fort Worth, Texas, and has given away more than $800,000 in scholarships and university grants to help high school and college athletes transform leadership on the field into leadership in life.

Just looking at those ACC quarterbacks

None of those guys mean more to their team than Joshua Nesbitt. Each one may be a more talented passer than Nesbitt, but they don’t control everything like he does. If Georgia Tech does well this season, and if the selection committee use that as a criterion, Nesbitt could make it into the next round (semi-finalists?).

As an aside, Christian Ponder is an elite talent as a pro passer, and so I expect him to do the best out of this group at the next level.

I agree with you

Ponder is behind Nesbitt as far as importance followed by Wilson. Tyrod is last. I think VT can just plug in a passer for their run first offense. Wilson could be lights out but his team is so bad it doesn’t matter. FSU has shown that Ponder is light years ahead of his backups and a key cog for their offense.

Tyrod Taylor

I think Tyrod Taylor does more for that offense than you’re giving him credit for. He’s that dual threat guy that they’ve always coveted. He has playmaking ability with his feet, which forces the defense to adjust for him.

I definitely agree with you about Russell Wilson though. He’s got the talent…if only he had some talent around him.

Nit-Picking

Joe ham won the award in 1999. It even says so in the link you provided.

Should be on the Doak Walker list IMO

This team will improve in '10... on its 16-16 conference record over the last 4 years.... after losing 20 games in the last 4 years... after having the 7th worst major-conference defense... after not even winning its own division in the ACC in the last 4.
