Elimination Round and MLB Draft Open Thread

Deck may be watching his last games as a Jacket...

Due to Jesse28's zealotry, I have decided to post an open thread for all the Tech fans following GT from home. Game is on CSS or WREK 91.1!

It sucks to be a GT fan sometimes...like right now

My heart has been crushed so many times I don’t feel things anymore. I want to give Danny Hall some grief for failing in playoffs after playing so well for most of the regular season. How long has it been since Tech went to the CWS? Exactly…

2006 was our last appearance

I am stuck in Indiana and I am watching the same movie. Over, and over, and over and over.

Yet were we not the 1st team eliminated that year?

Hmmm…I thought i had blocked that memory out

Haha, I didn't know where to post

And you can leave off the 28 if you want. I was away when SB switched to global accounts and I lost my handle of just ‘Jesse’.

I want to blame Burnette because I still believe he gave up on the fly ball at the wall, but that would just be me lashing out at a single individual when the blame could so easily be spread around. Dietrich and his mishandle’s at short, even though I know those things happen, especially given the circumstances of the game and the pressure that comes with it. Hall for leaving Bradley in one inning too long, though it may not have mattered much since Long proceeded to walk three straight. Plagman for tryin to do too much at the plate, even though he is our third all-time leader in homeruns and he’s supposed to do a lot at the plate. Skole for trying to barehand a ground ball, even though had he used the glove he may not have gotten the runner at first anyways.

Regardless, I am completely baffled as to why this school as a whole can’t seem to finish anything. Outside of last year’s football season (which I do consider a sucess even with the bowl loss – ymmv), our recent tennis success, and the 2004 basketball season, it just seems like the post-season is this schools kryptonite. I can’t say that it is complacency, though there have been those moments, so I’m just at a loss.

I think you are feeling what any successful

school feels. Teams that constantly make the postseason are bound to disappoint their fans. They have successful regular seasons and accumulate fans only to let them down. There is only one champion in every sport, every year. So there are 63 different fan bases upset at the end of every tournament. Only 1.5% of all fan bases get to experience a championship in major sports and since we’re always making the playoffs in every sport, we feel like the world is dumping on us. Maybe the world is but I tend to believe it’s just the fact that we have a successful athletic department that fields competitive teams in every sport.

Yeah, I get that

But I disagree that 63 fan bases get pset after every tournament. Some of those would consider it a wild sucess that they made it in. Considering the success of GT baseball for the last 20 years, that just isn’t the case anymore. This is why I consider last years football season an absolute sucess; we had not won the ACC championship in over a decade plus.

Being selected as the #8 national seed implies that it’s somewhat expected that we make it out of our regional so that we can physically host the super. Just making a regional should not be considered sucess, but instead at this point we should be expecting to win supers on a consistent basis.

…ugh, whatever. Ultimately you’re right and I’m just repeating myself. I just wish we would finish something as I think we should. DAMNIT, DO WHAT I WANT!!!

yeah

I think there’s just a lot more parity in minor sports now and teams that are shitty (cough Alabama cough) can compete with good teams. Hence, us getting upset all the time. We’re good over a long period of time like a season but when teams only have to beat us once, they can.
