The Final 4 of the Ultimate Sports City Debate

Detroit v. New York is a pivotal match up remaining in the tournament. (Photo by Leon Halip/Getty Images)

In the first round, over 2,000 votes were cast amongst 17 cities. In the second round, over 1,000 votes were cast for 8 cities. Detroit is probably the Vegas favorite to this point followed closely by New York. Miami pulled a squeaker by Atlanta in what was probably the closest vote of the tournament. Boston dispatched Chicago on a Friday in one of the lowest vote totals of the tournament. Here's a look at the Final 4 Match Ups for this Week:

So I go out of town

for a couple of weeks and I find Chicago and Atlanta are out and Miami is in. I want to redraw the seedings. To me the final four should have been New York, Boston, Chicago and Atlanta. Oh well.

Yeah...how was that bracket set up?

Couldn’t have been population…just a WAG?

I gave everyone

a point for pro sports or major BCS conference team in their city and then I gave weight to special events hosted like Super Bowls, World Cups, Olympics, etc.. Obviously cities like Miami, Tampa, and LA benefit from hosting special events.

It wasn’t a great system but I wanted something simple. The arguments for seeding could go on all day. Probably should’ve used average attendance or something along those lines.

I write stuff From the Rumble Seat.

You did what you could

That’s a reasonable method. Some cities just got a higher seed than expected, but like you said, those special events helped a lot. I won’t argue because I think the two best made it to the final four at least.

yea, me too

I was just being picky. Totally aside from any “scientific” way of choosing I just have my favorite sports cities and Miami is not one of them and Chicago is. I even think Atlanta gives Detroit a run for its money. Oh well, we will see what happens when the votes come in.
