Let the Heisman Campaign Begin...

Sure, I'll join the bandwagon but first
can we discuss a few things? Decades ago the Heisman went to the best college football player. Period. It did not matter that they were not necessarily pro material and indeed many did not really make it in the pros. But somewhere along the way two things happened. The Heisman began to be relegated to running backs and quarterbacks and more and more voters began to worry about whether the person they voted for could play that position in the pros. I think this devolution of the original concept of the Heisman is a travesty but I raise it to ask how we are going to counter that when so many voters cannot conceive of voting for a quarterback who is not “pro-style.” Tim Tebow may be the last time that happens but even with him one could argue that he threw more passes and he was on a number one ranked team. What say you?

They've pretty much always gone to running backs and quarterbacks...

Only 2 of the first 50 Heismans went to non-backs, with 3 since.
There’s certainly hope for atypical QBs: Eric Crouch won it in ‘01 with numbers very similar* to Nesbitt’s ’09. Troy Smith won it in ’06 while doing more running than the average QB.
- Crouch 2,771 yards, 28 TDs, 10 INTs; Nesbitt 2,738 yards, 28 TDs, 5 INTs … Crouch did his in 12 games vs Nesbitt’s 14, but it was also Crouch’s senior year.

Would need to compete for a national title
Crouch’s team fell flat but they started 10-0 or 11-0, I can’t really remember
10-0 before getting flattened by Colorado if memory serves. Then a giant string of freak events went through on Championship weekend to knock Texas and Tennessee out of contention and put Nebraska back in as the sacrificial lamb to Miami.

O.K., you've convinced me
but we still need to have a very good season, at least a top ten finish and a BCS bowl victory. Of course going undefeated and winning the national championship would seal it but I not going to get greedy.

Perhaps it is a strained metaphor
like Nesbitt is going to really turn the football world upside down with his unorthodox play, or something like that.

It's all about the BCS Title Game
The devolution of the Heisman is that your team has to be playing in the BCS Title Game in order to win the stupid award.
It’s sad; it used to be the greatest award in sports. Not anymore.
Even though it would be awesome for the Nesbitt to win...
But indeed the Heisman as lost its luster

No, no, keep it
The Nesbitt sounds better!

Fact.
