Maryland Baseball Preview...or lack thereof

New MD head coach, Erik Bakich... Last time Tech saw him, Vanderbilt was complaining about Kappa Sig's speaker volume over the center field wall... It was awkward.

Testudo Times mastermind, Ben Broman, had this to say about Maryland baseball:
...I’m not sure there’s anyone not on the team that’s familiar with Terps baseball. We’ve been monumentally bad for as long as I can remember, and with the two bigger sports finding success recently, no one cared about last-place-in-the-ACC baseball. The most anyone will probably be able to tell you is that Bakich is the new coach, he has a ton of energy and will start to turn things around eventually, but we’re still pretty bad this year.

And bad they are... The Terps are 7-8 (1-2) on the season. They got beat in their first ACC series by the Hokies. They've got a team ERA of 5.59 and a team batting average of 0.244. I didn't realize there were college baseball teams with sub-0.300 batting averages especially in the ACC.

The Terps' weekend starters are Sander Beck (4.05 ERA), Brett Harman (5.81 ERA), and Eric Potter (8.40 ERA). Expect Harman to take the mound Friday. He actually had a great showing against the Hokies last weekend, pitching 8.0 innings and not allowing a run in the 10-0 win. Harman, however, is streaky and if Tech gets some hits, I expect Harman to fall apart.

Tech needs the sweep. First pitch is 6:00PM in College Park. Radio is WREK 91.1 as usual.

With Apologies To Randy Edsall, The Big East Remains Mostly Harmless

FILE -- This is an Oct. 18, 2008 file photo showing Connecticut corner back Jasper Howard (6) trying to get the crowd into the game during the fourth quarter of an NCAA college football game against Rutgers, in Piscataway, N.J. Jasper Howard had his little sisters' names tatooed on his chest. His friends say it was a constant reminder of why he was at U Conn _ to provide his family with a better life than the one he had in Miami's Little Haiti. (AP Photo/Mel Evans, File) link
