Diamond Notes: Baseball and Softball, Short and Sweet
Baseball:
The Yellow Jackets outscored the Xavier Musketeers 26-11 over the weekend but only came away with 2 wins.
Saturday was an unleashing of power as the Jackets pummeled the visitors 15-0 and only allowed two hits. Friday and Sunday resulted in a 1-run win and a 1-run loss, respectively. The loss will surely be labeled as "disappointing" because this was Xavier's first win of the season and also marked a season high in runs for the Musketeers.
But let's let bygones be bygones and look to the future. The Jackets return to action this Wednesday Tuesday at Russ Chandler Stadium against Western Carolina. Tech has split the last four meetings with the Catamounts. Tech will host Rutgers this weekend for the annual 3-game series as well.
Softball:
This past weekend saw the softball team in Columbus, GA as participants in the NFCA Leadoff Classic. Four of the nation's Top 8 teams were represented in the event. Over the weekend, the Jackets went 4-1 beating Central Florida, Arkansas, Louisiana-Lafayette and Iowa. The team was shutout by the Nebraska Cornhuskers 2-0 late Friday night.
The Tech softball team is now 13-2 and will be a participant in the Buzz Classic in Woodstock, GA this upcoming weekend.

Actually
The Western Carolina game is on Tuesday, not Wednesday.
That being said, the weather forecast for Tuesday is absolutely dismal, and I wouldn’t be surprised if the game is canceled or possibly moved to Wednesday (both teams are off Wednesday).
what do you think about...
Slutgers…I mean Rutges? 1-5 start with lone win over a Big 10 team. Swept by Hurricanes. Do we have a solid third starter? Should we be concerned with poor Sunday showing against Xavier?
I spun around... and there I was, face-to-face with a six-year old kid. Well, I just threw my guns down and walked away. Little bastard shot me in the ass.
Jed Bradley
I think he is a solid third starter — he was ACC pitcher of the week after his performance against Missouri State, and outside of a shaky 6th inning, he pitched pretty well yesterday.
We are 15-4 against Rutgers since the 2003 season. I think we’ll do well against them this week, even though the loud Asian guy behind the dugout will be 4,000 miles away.
thanks for the catch
That’s what I get for looking at dates and not names of days.
