Andy McCollum to GT

Rivals reports that McCollum has left NC State to become the new linebacker coach and recruiting coordinator.  He was also head coach at Middle Tenn State for a while.  He has been successful everywhere he has been and has held a number of coaching positions throughout his life.  A lot of people credit McCollum with turning MTSU around as they won the Sunbelt conference in 2001.  Not sure why he ever left or why he had such a "low" position at NC State compared to his prior coaching experience.

He left MTSU

because it was part of his secret long term plan to end up in Atlanta, where every true college football genius eventually wants to end up. :-)

He spoke to our Quarterback Club 2 years ago.

He’s a CPJ kind of guy. Hardnosed, old skool type.

I would say good hire; two thumbs up

1) The guy has a history of improving programs as head coach at Middle Tenn State
2) Had a top 5 nationally ranked defense with Baylor (I mean, Baylor?) as DC
3) Personally helped recruit and tutor Nate Irving at NC State
4) Knows Georgia like the back of his hand, he was born here and its always been his top area for recruiting.
5) He is willing to be “mentored” by Al Groh and hopefully become our DC in the near future. (this is more rumor than fact)
6) Wants to win, so he came to Georgia Tech. That’s something I’ll never get tired of.

There are still conflicting reports about whether he will coach linebackers with Groh or be our D-line coach, but he is our new recruiting coordinator.

No regrets, that's my motto. That and everybody Wang Chung tonight. - Out Cold

Discussion on NC State blog

If you’re interested

I spun around... and there I was, face-to-face with a six-year old kid. Well, I just threw my guns down and walked away. Little bastard shot me in the ass.
