Any thoughts out there on March Madness' pending expansion to 96 teams? I looked at the numbers for big time college sports and teams that reach the postseason. Here are the stats:
347 Div I Hoops Teams, 65 Make Tournament (18.73%)
211 Div I Baseball Teams, 64 Make Tournament (30.33%)
122 Div I-AA Football Teams, 16 Make Tournament (13.11%)
120 Div I-A Football Teams, 68 Make Bowl Games (56.67%)
61 Div I Lax Teams, 16 Make Tournament (26.23%)
59 Div I Hockey Teams, 16 Make Tournament (27.12%)
Div I-AA football is expanding to 20 teams next year (16.39%). An expansion to 96 teams for hoops would make it on par with Hockey and Lax (at 27.67%).
What are your thoughts oh noble readers, commenters, fans, and Iowan vagabonds?
