Designs for Alexander Memorial Coliseum Overhaul

Upper Club Level Accelerated Stair View

We got a hold of the pictures being sent out by general contractor Whiting-Turner. We have a friend and reader of the blog that works for a subcontract who is bidding on parts of the AMC renovation. Check out the profile of the new structure:

There will be new club level seating above the lower deck. Also note that the seats will go all the way to the floor behind the hoops according to the diagrams.

This view shows you kinda what the upper club level will look like:

Don't forget the new front facade:

This fixes

the “square peg, round hole” problem that a lot of arenas have. Texas did something similar with The Drum, but Oklahoma refuses to fix how horrible its basketball arena is.

I've always hated those walls behind the hoops

Glad to see they’re going away. Too bad I won’t get a chance to see it in person.

I’m still holding out hope that the McCamish family will donate a couple million dollars more to go toward starting a “Fire Paul Hewitt” fund.

How about the acoustic engineering?

Will it be mind numbingly loud like The Tit? I’d rather have a noisy Old arena than quiet showplace (Cameron Indoor vs. The Dean Dome and Drs Waiting room)

the lower bowl

looks somewhat like k-state’s arena and it’s pretty loud. if you fill the place up it will be loud considering how close you guys will be to the floor.

mizzou had a problem with that. hearnes center was probably the loudest arena ive ever been to and they replaced it with Dollar Per Paige Arena, which is the nicest college basketball facility ive ever seen, but they made it too big and all the noise escapes. the fact youre keeping the old arena structure and just fixing the seating will probably make it louder if anything else.

been a fan of piped in crowd noise.
