What happened last night? I don't know. I wrote this post two days ago because I'm coming home from the game right now! Why is Paul Hewitt laughing at me?

And because I enjoyed that last comment so much after a 6 pack:

I now know what the F%&* is wrong with Frank Beamer’s neck (in case you were wondering): he has about 500,000 four leaf clovers surgically crammed in there because he is the luckiest man alive. It takes a special teams miracle AND our QB getting injured in order for them to win that ball game.

Granted we made a crap ton of false starts. Oh. ACC officiating sucks!!!! Even the announcers said something about the missed hold calls. I counted 7 myself.

The no calls on the holding was attocious!!

The game sucked monkey balls!!!!

VT is soo effin lucky Nesbit went out or we would have won easily…lose on a effin KO return…that blows!!!!!

Looking forward to next year

I feel like Tevin running the offense will give us a lot of never-before-seen balance. He clearly isn’t the bruising runner Nesbitt is, but he also throws much better, which is essentially going to force balance.

I will say though, I was very impressed with how well the offense was running tonight. I think the week off must’ve given them time to get all the fundamentals right again (see: post-Miami 2009) and they looked really solid as a whole. I think we’re gonna make Miami miserable.

Next year?

we’ll be seeing how he runs the offense the rest of this year, since Nesbitt is out for the season. It’s a damn shame. At least he broke the record tonight.

It’s not all bad, I guess. If Tevin Washington plays the rest of this season, he’ll get some much needed experience moving into next year. And really, after losing this game, experience and maybe actually beating our bowl opponent (and georgie) are all we have to look forward to the rest of the season. (We ARE mathematically eliminated now right? Since even if VPI loses out and we win out we’ll both be 5-3 in the ACC, and they now hold the tiebreaker)

We are out

but VT is not necessarily in. If they lose out, Miami will go to the championship game.

It’s a shame that Nesbitt ends his football career in that way…a pass that should have never been called and never been thrown. Maybe he could come back for a bowl game, if we get to a bowl game.

I know this sounds like second guessing

but I was put out that we were trying to throw the ball when we had both the lead and the ball inside the 10 yard line. Even just getting a field goal would have been huge at that point in the game and we would still have Nesbitt.

Good job ACC refs. Miss on countless holds, and change the make up of a game on a highly questionable hold. You guys are awesome

This one's on CPJ

First off, kudos to Groh and the D – did everything they could, but with Nesbitt out had to stay on the field too long.

The call on the play Nesbitt threw the interception and was injured is a festering sore for me. You have the lead in the most hostile environment in the ACC, 6 yards from a 14 point lead, with a 10 point lead almost guaranteed. You’ve been successful running the ball all night. Your defense has been playing great. You’ve kept the crowd out of the game. Then you turn around the game and your season on one call.

CPJ is awesome but you have to admit that just about every game there are a couple of calls where you say WTF. Fortunately last year most of those calls went Tech’s way but whether it’s karma coming back into balance or poorer execution it’s biting the Jackets in the rear this year. CPJ’s gotta know what his team can and can’t do and for whatever reasons this team can’t throw and catch as effectively as last year so why throw at a critical juncture?

The D played as well as we could have expected

Congrats to Nesbit for an outstanding career…too bad it ended last night. Very sad about that

About our D

Our players are finally starting to ‘get’ the 3-4. Our freshman and sophomore DEs looked pretty good, and we were able to harass the QB just about all night. It took holding ALL game to prevent us from reaching Tyrod. There were exactly ZERO calls by the refs. Even the announcers commented on how they were holding our D Line. SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO SICK of ACC officiating.

We still let a big play through here and there, but that was mostly due to Tyrod making something out of nothing – he’s def. one of the best athletes in the entire conference.

I think Tevin will get better with time – we saw him grow a little as the game progressed last night. He’s seemingly a better passer than Nesbitt. Wish we’d play with the kind of frenetic pace that Oregon plays with. Opponents wouldn’t know whether to shit or go blind.

Turkey neck Beamer probably needs to recharge the shamrock-mass inserted in his neck for their next game.

Also

Our 3rd string QB is a better runner than Washington I think – would be kinda cool to see a dual QB system. Thoughts on that?

by gte071u on Nov 5, 2010 8:58 AM EDT up reply actions

I don't think that would work

You need consistency at the QB position to avoid fumbles and such.I agree though that next year will be a very competitive QB battle. After the MTSU game, I thought that maybe Sims had the advantage, but I was pleased with Tevin Washington’s play last night.

Easy there

I wouldn’t say that we were able to harass the QB all night. There were plays where Taylor had 6 and 7 seconds to throw, and easily could’ve had twice that from our 3 man rush. I watched the first half again last night on ESPN3.com, and the play where Taylor was picked in the endzone by Sweeting, he had 11 seconds to throw from the time the ball was snapped….and it’s not even like he was in a hurry when he did throw.

Though I do take that with a grain of salt, because that play looked very clearly like a contain play.

Contain

That’s what the defense was trying to do all night. Just keep him in the pocket and force him to throw into coverage. It worked for the most part, holding them to their lowest scoring total since the JMU game (I think).

Any chance QBJN back for the nadlickers??

What is the procedure for a team to protest the (lack of) officiating without getting a tongue lashing from the ACC office??

Haven’t seen that much holding since the last chick flick I had to sit through.

They say Joshua will not be back

until the bowl game, if there is one. After the way Duke jumped all over Navy I’m not so sure Tech will be in a bowl this year.

by CraigT on Nov 5, 2010 10:40 AM EDT up reply actions

I think 1-2 is possible

However, if we have one of the earlier bowl games, Nesbitt may not be back by then.
