Time to look to the future

Offense- with 8 starters being freshman or sophomores, the future looks bright. Somehow though we have to stop the fumbles.

Defense- we need help big time. Cross is a player and I feel good about our secondary but the other 6 needs to upgrade big time. I don’t know if we can do that in one year.

Special teams- can we get a dedicated coach? Out SP play is embarrassing. We lose field position on every kick.

Chances to win were squandered

When Tech had a chance to go ahead with about two and a half minutes left I did not like the quarterback draw call on first down. From past experience in those situations we should know that above all else we need to make positive yards on first down when only a few minutes are left in a game, even if it is only two or three. Give it to Allen and only worry about passing if you still need six yards or more on fourth down. Otherwise we always seem to end up needing 12 yards on second down and 16 yards on fourth down. Get some positive yards! This offense works when the other team can’t lay back and wait for the obvious pass play.

Other than that I have to say there is not too much to complain about in this game. It hurts to lose but Tech played a better game than most expected and Georgia was lucky to win -especially when you realize how many times their fans grew quiet and pensive during the game. All is right with the bulldog world and things are as they are supposed to be but any one of their faithful who was paying attention should worry about why they have given up such big numbers in rushing yards three years in a row now. If Tech had a better defense, any kind of special teams and more consistency on offensive execution these games would be blow outs in Tech’s favor. I still like Tech’s chances long term against Georgia.

Turnovers

Just get rid of the turnovers, especially the ones in the redzone, and we’re up two scores late in the fourth quarter. That’s been the Achilles heel for this team this season. The defense is improving, but still has a ways to go with personnel (I still cringe when I see the nose tackle getting single blocked effectively). The more I watch Tech play from behind late in the game, the more I dislike the playcalling in obvious passing downs.

Rec, Rec, Rec, Rec

and Rec again.

Fully agree with pretty much everything you said. Especially the first paragraph. AA was averaging >10 Yds per carry through the entire 4th Qtr when he got his hands on the ball. Our nail-in-the-coffin drive was 100% Tevin ball. Nothing against him personally, but it was a 4 yd lass, 2 yd loss, and 2 incompletions. With 2:30 and a timeout remaining? AA should’ve been plugging away with a few mixed runs to the perimeter to get OOB and stop the clock, only using the timeout to stop the clock after entering FG range.

THWG!
