MTSU Open Thread: Anthony Allen tames the Pegasus
Special thanks goes out to Winfield and Yakub2 for the open thread cartoon idea. FYI, MTSU has a Pegasus mascot and Anthony Allen averages 250+ yards per game against the Blue Raiders...

To really get the full effect of the rainbow Pegasus combo, you gotta watch Jimmy Fallon as Neil Young performing Double Rainbow...

Bah
Can’t find the radio call anywhere. At least I get video from ESPN3.
"Everybody talks about SEC speed. The 27 fastest guys at the (NFL) combine, how many of them were from the SEC? Three. But if you say it enough, everybody will believe it."
-CPJ
"You could spend the next fifteen seconds of your life watching a man and a tiger scream together, or you could be an idiot."
Fact.
WTF Peeples?!
At least pretend to try and stick your damn hands out there…

Stop throwing on first down
Nesbitt doesn’t have the touch today and then follows each miss by keeping the ball on 2nd down for no gain.
Huh?
He’s looked fine to me. Long bomb to Orwin Smith right there. Followed by yet another dropped pass by Peeples.

Fact.
It was the catches, not the throws
Tech has to be able to make teams pay for cheating the defensive backs in on run defense. The passing game is critical to run game success.
Nesbitt is throwing fine. The receivers need to start pulling them in.
They seem to be keying on the pitch a lot

Well, so much for that nice pass
Off Pass int on Hill takes a score off the board. Maybe they go right back to it

I hate to say it
But there is a straight up Gailey feel to the team this year. We play up and down to our opponent way too often.

Don't get the play calling
Throwing the ball 1/3rd of the time is no way to get the running game tuned up for Clemson/VT/Miami.
Because if Tech doesn't complete wide open long passes
then the other team can play everyone against the run.
A few quick thoughts --
First – Peeples dropped two EASY TD catches. Game shouldn’t have been as close as it was early on.
2nd – that was a BS call on the Off Pass Int on Hill – CPJ was pointing at the big screen while screaming at the ref.
I don’t know what jesse28 is talking about – the score could’ve easily been 21 points more in our favor, yet we still destroyed them. We are allowing a ton of yards though….over 300 yds of offense for MTSU. We have to start wrapping people up better when tackling or it’s going to burn us.
And how about the takeaways? We forced a ton of turnovers today. Good stuff.
Paul
that's what i'm talking about
Throughout the Gailey years it always felt like when facing a team we should beat easily the team would spend the first half seeing if they would have to put a lot of effort into winning the game. Many times we got bit by those teams.
In this case, we should have had 30 by halftime yet we went in 14-7. Peeples and the 3-4 defense aside, there’s no reason for us to struggle against the likes of MTSU and Kansas.
Did we blast them in the end? Of course, but that doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t be playing much better than we have in the first half of games. The rest of our schedule isn’t loaded with MTSU level teams and we will lose to VT, Clemson, and uga if we can’t get the offense going earlier in the game.

Don't forget
Miami and Duke. Miami is just as good as Clemson and VT, and Duke is better than MTSU, and will probably stick around if we let them.
