Thank goodness
It would have really hurt to start 0-2 at home in conference play. This gets us back in the race.
I still voted no in the poll. Fact is Hewitt has been over 500 once in the ACC and that was only 9-7. This team will need to do better than that to swing my vote.
great justification
long term is more important than short term. It feels good to beat Dook, though.
You are a sad, strange little man, and you have my pity.
Agreed
But immediately after this game was over I knew I would have another poll to look forward to as I recently switched sides on the Hewitt topic. Maybe if I stay on the “boo Hewitt” side we’ll keep winning?

Past results?
Bird, anyway to start showing a graph tracking the results? This week will be really interesting with the loss to uga followd by a big home win.
yeah will post it this week before next game
It was hard to show much when I only had a couple of poll results… Now, I think there are 5-6.
You are a sad, strange little man, and you have my pity.
Had we lost...
I would’ve blamed HORRIBLE first half officiating. They didn’t show replays on the screens at AMC but those fouls on the 3’s were garbage and we were getting raped and plundered every time the ball went up. #21 could’ve been flagged for 15 after every pick he set and then charging through the lane with elbows raised nailing anybody who got in his way.
I still vote no until we come up with an in bounds play that doesn’t involve chucking the ball back to half court to a 6’8" guy with no handles. Would love to run an offense like we did the last 5-6 minutes- dribble down, give it to Gani on the wing mid-range and then get everybody else the HELL OUTTA THE WAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The guy’s a beast. Period.
Are you a LION or a GAZELLE?
Saw that replay on Scheyer
We didn’t even touch him. There was about three inches of space from shooting hand to feet. No need for Hewitt to get a T on it, but if he had I wouldn’t have been upset because it was a bogus call by the ref under the basket who could only see our players back. Scheyer simply landed wrong and did some dumb jump thing that looked like he got hit. He must be a follower of the Paul Pierce School of Flopping.
Either way, is that the first time we’ve seriously used the full court press of old this year? I know I saw some press in the Dayton and FSU games, but nothing as all out as it was against Duke. If Hewitt starts coaching like he did pre-2005 then I might switch back to full on supporter.

The win feels great
Thought we played good defense and kept DOOK from doing anything productive.
The college football season is so fragile. It's like a glass ball being pushed around from stadium to stadium by a rhinoceros.

For me
this just makes the loss to Georgia worse. We clearly have the basis for a great team, but they aren’t playing every game that way.
Chalk that up to..
having freshman playing a lot of minutes. Tech needs to work on getting the ball into the post more. When they get the ball inside they dominate. When they settle for 3s not so much

I also think
anything can happen on the road against major conference teams. The talent disparity is evident but it’s not like playing patsies at home where your chance of winning is 90%. Playing a team like Georgie in Athens and your odds of winning get closer to 50%.
You are a sad, strange little man, and you have my pity.
Not really.
We still had a 76% chance to beat Georgia, according to Ken Pomeroy’s highly accurate anaysis. After factoring in that loss, we had a 19% chance to beat Duke at home. Duke is the #2 team in his rankings and has the #1 offensive efficiency, which is points per possession, adjusted for competition. This is a monster win for us. Duke’s only other loss was to a very good Wisconsin team (currently #6 in the Pomeroy rankings).
Agree
As did Bilas as he called the game on ESPN. Time and time again Gani worked his ass off for position and each time our guys jacked up long jumpers or when they did send the ball down low, it was late and Gani no longer had an open position. With Lawal and Favors, we must play an inside-out game, regardless of the talent we might have outside because unfortunately those guys just aren’t as consistent as they need to be.

Woot woot!
Nice to see GT hit their FT down the stretch..

Hewitt
Hewitt teams have been up and down…but he delivered a very nice recruiting class this year. I have a hard time hating on Hewitt. GT is playing some good defense and as long as they are doing that they can play with anybody

Hewitt
His teams have the same tendancies that Gailey’s teams had; we play up to our competition and we play down to the competition. We might beat Duke, but we’ll also probably lose to Kentucky State.

wouldn't you be worried?
If you were playing Clarence Moore’s team?
You are a sad, strange little man, and you have my pity.
Dook’s roster was whiter then the UGA basecoat kid, ha

Lose to ug, then beat Dook
Feels like the Chain Gailey Experience.
Reporter: Can I ask you something without making you mad?
His approval rating is worse than I thought it would be
I voted yes in the poll, and after seeing the results I’m glad I did. I still have concerns about Hewitt’s ability to manage timeouts and to call a successful in-bounds pass (sometimes these go hand-in-hand), but we are playing very good D right now, which is what we rode to the Final Four last time. As our freshmen improve, our offense will start scoring more points. The other things that I normally knock Hewitt on have improved. We are making our free throws! That and we’re not fouling as much. Our turnovers are still a nuisance, but they aren’t killing us like last year. And finally, our close-game record is going to look better after this. For all of that, I can approve of Hewitt’s job. I think we will get better as we go, and hopefully we end up better than 9-7 in the ACC and go on a run in the postseason.
FT's
We aren’t making FT’s much more than any other year since 2004. Currently we are at 69.3% (154th) while our average since 2004 is 67.7%. Starting with 2004 our %’s have been 69.2, 69.1, 66.7, 68.1, 70.1, and 63. We are actually on par for a Hewitt team thus far.

Gani Lawal is a man!
I love his confidence to shoot that backboard shot:
“I’ve practiced that shot. I knew it was good when it left my hand,” Lawal said. "I told the guys, ‘Just find a way to get me the ball.’ "

Iowa fan here
Just wanted to say great game! A win over Duke is a win over evil. Good luck the rest of the year.
What?
Have we become the home-away-from-home for Iowa fans now? Get lost! My team lost a game to you that I clearly thought they should win, except they showed us all that they were over-matched. The last thing I want to see is your face poking around our board cheering us on. Seriously. ’Preciate you stopping by and all, now please go home.
PS: Are there GT fans on your boards? If there are I hope they’re being polite and not bitter, but I don’t understand that either. GT fans come home where you belong instead of on those Steeler wannabes’ boards.
Dude, you are an ass!
My favorite all-time basketball team is Lethal Weapon 3. Kenny Anderson, Dennis Scott and Brian Oliver were fun as hell to watch. So maybe you should know something about someone before you open you f’ing trap. 99% of the people on this board were cool (and it was good nature ribbing on both sides for the most part – GT people wre also on Iowa boards).
If you can’t take a compliment, you are just an ass.
So congrats to GT and all of its fans, except Portmanteur. You can screw off.

Can ruin it for everybody…
You are a sad, strange little man, and you have my pity.
Your're right.
Hey Vahawk, I apologize. I went back and read all of my posts from yesterday and realized I must have had something large up my butt. Nothing I said was worthwhile, and calling you out was just unnecessary. As for Iowans on our boards, I understand that it was all good-natured (and that’s mostly why my comment was so off-base), but it still was really just a painful reminder for me. If it were UGA fans I could just ignore them, but you guys were nice and I had to keep reading. I am definitely upset that my team didn’t win. But like I said, we didn’t deserve to win, Iowa did, and that’s what hurts the most.
I’m glad that everybody down there had a good time. Sorry to be the killjoy; I’ll grow up sooner or later.

Seriously though, your jerseys did remind me of the Steelers the whole game. Then again, so did the defense…

Yeah dude—-I gained a lot of respect for at least one team in the big 10. If opposing fans cheer us on—I think that’s pretty cool. Have a little class…I was at the Orange Bowl and their D-Line dominated us. A majority of the fans were cool…there are as like most teams the usual suspect idiots…but that’s to be expected when beer and sports are mixed together.
