Experience for one thing. He's been a head coach for about 14 years at three different stops. He's coached in the ACC for almost 10 years so he has a lot of familiarity with our opponents including a division opponent (UVA) and major division rival (VT). He'll bring a vendetta, a blood oath - TO BEAT ALL SCHOOLS IN VIRGINIA MERCILESSLY.

Statistically, let's look at Al Groh's tenure at UVA:




Al Groh has masterminded a pretty good scoring defense since ACC Expansion in 2005. Total yardage is middle of the road but he has also had putrid offenses that've really hurt his defenses. Groh has sent 9 guys into the NFL Draft on defense alone including #2 overall pick Chris Long.




Groh's big deal is discipline. He ran one of the least penalized ACC squads over the past 5 years.

If Al Groh can get good talent in to place, we can muster up some pretty good seasons in the future. Especially if the offense begins to slow down with the departure of key skill position players in the next couple years.
