Friday Links & When did we get a female beat writer??
Here are some links to help you get through a "productive" Friday. But first...since when did Georgia Tech get a female beat writer for the AJC (Carroll Rogers)? I rarely follow the AJC, I read Coley Harvey of the Macon Telegraph instead. Well, as long as she isn't Heather Dinich.....

Eagles Could Use Some Bees | Inside the Iggles | A Philadelphia Eagles Blog
With the 2009 season in the rear view mirror, it's time to turn our attention to fixing the Eagles problems. I got to see the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in person a few times over the last two years. All three of the players mentioned in the article really caught my eye. It just so happens that each plays a position of need for our beloved Birds.
100 in 100: Jonathan Dwyer (9 of 100) - Niners Nation
For multiple reasons, Dwyer has climbed up the board and is considered among the top 5 running backs entering the draft this year. Punishing, Menacing, Pain inflicting are just a few expressions that describe the Yellow Jackets back quite well.

Wow
That Mocking the Draft article on Dwyer is bad. So many contradictions and clearly not enough research done on Dwyer. Might have to sign up over there and help them out some.

interesting
and unfortunately I have to admit, sometimes when I link these articles, I skim some of them, looking for topics that most people would be interested in.
The college football season is so fragile. It's like a glass ball being pushed around from stadium to stadium by a rhinoceros.

No doubt
I just was amazed that right off the bat it says he rarely works around the tackles and is used primarily on sweeps outside. Then, not but a few items later, says that he mainly runs up the middle. I mean, seriously, which one is it? The writer claims to have watched numerous GT games, yet here doesn’t show any understanding of the fundamental differences between the A-back and B-back positions.
The research part is that the writer acts like he is some unknown outside of the flexbone, yet all one has to do is look at his numbers from Gailey’s last year and it would be clear that he was going to be an outstanding back from the beginning. Dwyer played in 13 games as a freshmen in Gailey’s pro-style offense averagine 5.32 ypc on 82 attempts. He also scored 9 times on those 82 attempts for a scoring average of one TD every 9.11 carries. That’s not bad considering we had Choice that year cranking out 1379 yds and averaging 5.28 per. In fact, even if the numbers aren’t enough, I’m sure a cursory search on youtube would turn up some old clips of his from his first year.

Carroll is doing hoops. I gues Doug only does football
I like her better anyway. She is a better reporter and ask more interesting questions
and i think she will be a lot better than Dinich
Dinich basically passes along press releases. You learn nothing that is not in the AP story or from a media department.
I like her, immediately
I had almost completely given up on the AJC except for headline skimming, but I just read some of her articles and I have to say she provides a very entertaining and refreshing attitude in her work. You can easily she that she enjoys writing. I know I will be reading from now on, so maybe there is some light left to shine on the ole AJC.
