Thoughts

Here’s my assessment of the new poll:

1. Duh
2. Another duh
3. Definitely after OU’s loss
4. Okay, there’s no reason to not move them up, but I don’t think a win over VT first game of the season is all that big of a deal (look at Clemson last year)
5. I would rather see Penn State in this spot. Don’t give OK State that much credit for beating U[sic]GA.
6. See #5. I think Cal deserves this spot anyway.
7. OK State should be here.
8. Va Tech does not deserve to be in the top 10. They could hardly get the ball over the 50 yard line against Bama. Their offense is going to be a mess all year because Tyrod Taylor is Reggie Ball’s clone.
9. Didn’t see the LSU game. But #9’s probably about right.
10. BYU probably deserves this. Too bad we won’t know if it’s a good decision or not b/c they won’t really be tested the rest of the year.
11. Didn’t see the game. But no arguments.
12. This is where I would put VT. It’s about right for OU. Look for them to still be a contender for the BCS b/c a loss against a top 25 team first game of the season when your Heisman winning QB goes down with an injury shouldn’t hurt you much.
13. Yeah, we should probably drop. Fumbles suck! We’ll see how we do versus Clemson.
14. Maybe they should be ahead of GT. I know I wouldn’t have wanted to play/box them on Thursday.
15. Drop THE Ohio State University even lower. They are going to get thrashed versus USC on Saturday.
16. Don’t know much about them.
17. Won’t know until tonight.
18. Maybe they should be up more. I would rather not underestimate Mark Richt and the Dawgs. Then, I’ll just be severely disappointed if we lose to them.
19. Can’t say I’d put them in the top 25 unless they beat us.
20. Don’t know too much about them.
21. The Big East needs at least one team in the top 25, but I’d rather see it be USF or Rutgers.
22. Don’t know much about them.
23. See #22.
24. Okay
25. Miami might start the season 0-4. I’m not ranking them at all. Plus, they havn’t even played yet.

I think

We should switch Miami/FSU for obvious reasons: 1) Winning on the road. 2) Losing at home. etc.

Cincinatti SMOKED Rutgers like a doobie and fell out. Switch Cincy and Pitt until Pitt plays somebody.

Clearly we’ll be changing some things around finally after teams played on Sunday/Monday

The college football season is so fragile. It's like a glass ball being pushed around from stadium to stadium by a rhinoceros.

Some thoughts

The only problem I have with this are the big moves. Oregon drops from #10 to out entirely, but you only move Boise St up one? BYU beats a Bradford-less OU and moves 12 spots up and OU drops 9? Cal beats Maryland, which isn’t a contender in their own division, much less on the national level, and moves up 11?

Granted Oregon looked bad, but Boise St has been playing really good football for many years now and their defense looked really good that night. It was also Week 1, so it might be safe to assume that they could still beat some of the teams in the bottom half of the poll. If you wanted to drop them below Boise St, that would be a more logical move. Otherwise, wouldn’t you need to drop OU off as well since they lost to BYU? IMO, Boise St is the better team.

Speaking of which, moving BYU up 12 spots and over taking OU with their 9 spot drop is a little much. To me, that tells like you think BYU could beat OU with Bradford and I don’t think I could agree with that. Yes, both teams should move up and down based on the game they played, but not as much as this.

And, related to Oregon, Cal is a very solid team and is much better than Oregon right now. They should be higher than Oregon, but moving 11 spots after a win over Maryland might be a little much, especially considering the state that team is in. Del Rea Scott might be a one-hit wonder sicne they no longer have the deep threat in Heyward-Bey, and I don’t think they are a factor in the ACC at all this year. Moving Cal that many spots gives way too much credit to Maryland than they deserve.

All that being said though, Cal probably deserves to be close to or in the top ten, Oregon probably deserves to be i the bottom half, Navy should at least be in the 20-25 range, BYU should be closer to OU than they were previously (just not ahead of them, yet), and VPI should probably be right outside the top ten. Overall though, it looks good.

I specifically

claimed absolutely no allegiance to my preseason ballot. While I did use it to base my new ballot (of course im going to feel the same way towards alot of teams), preseaon ballots are effing stupid and results are much more important.
