The Girls of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University

Finding the Girls of VPI was probably just as easy as finding girls from FSU. Nice job, furrer4heisman, VPI cleans up well.

Should have expected that.

I just happy that not only am I not alone in calling the school VPI but I’m not the only one who knows and breaks out the full name every now and then.

Same

I refuse to call them Virginia Tech. When I say VPI and people go “who?” I’m like “I’m sorry, that’s not their real name. They’re really VPI&SU.”

I get the "Who?" a lot as well

It’s much like asking people if they know how many D-1 schools don’t have ‘University’ in their names. Most of those who claim to know college football, really don’t.

And in a moment of CYOA, I am in no way making any claims that I personally know college football inside and out, haha!

I get laughs when I use "VPI", but I'm old, as are the people I talk to

The “no university in the name” question works a lot better if you restrict it to Division 1-A (I also don’t use FBS and FCS), which yields just five. Otherwise you’d have to include several 1-AA colleges.

I just wish we could still call Auburn “Alabama Polytechnic Institute”, but they officially changed their name in 1960.
