LSU vs. UNC in CFA Kickoff 2010

From Tony Barnhart

Two people close to the discussions told me Sunday night that North Carolina and LSU have tentatively agreed to play in the Chick-fil-A College Kickoff on Sept. 4, 2010 at the Georgia Dome.

North Carolina and LSU have indicated to the Atlanta Sports Council that they will play in the game if some scheduling issues can be resolved to open up the date for both teams. Those issues are expected to be resolved.

Now I am not one to get overly pissed off at the Atlanta Sports Council but it is getting frustrating to see all of these talks with a very limited amount of interest in Tech's participation.

I think

And I could be completely wrong here, but I’m pretty sure I read somewhere that it was kind of intended that way, that they were looking to bring in teams from outside the state. I don’t remember why that is though.

Which is why I’m not horribly pissed at the ASC. It’s not their job to make sure that GT is comfortable. It’s to bring in money to the city and the area. But frustrating nonetheless because no matter what anyone says, we still have to work around that game be it scheduling our first game on a Thursday (Jax. State last year) or scheduling our game for earlier in the day (Jax State this year). Against 1-AA opponents, it’s no big deal, but what happens when we have a top 10 opponent coming into Atlanta and we are also in the top 10. Who wins in that scenario?

Makes you wonder if the ASC is actually taking those things into consideration. Obviously one would like to hope so, but we all know that money drives this sport. If I were part of it, I would think GT would be one of the top ACC teams on my list only because we play three SEC teams each year already, so why not make one of those a big deal right off the bat? If they mention moving the UGAy game to the beginning of the season though, all bets are off.

It would be quite a game against Florida though wouldn’t it?
