Ramblin' Reck and Orange Bowl Update

Everyone,

First of all thank you so much for your support over the past few weeks. When I initially got word that the Reck was going to make it on the field, I was ecstatic for the chance to lead the Jackets one last time at the Orange Bowl of all places. However, I soon went into panic mode. I wondered how we were going to pay to get the car down to Miami because most of our funds allocated towards bowl trip expenses were allocated towards Tampa. After the past couple weeks, I've realized I had no reason to fear at all. Thanks to all of you....Georgia Tech alums, current students, and fans (including rival fans from Florida State, Virginia Tech, AND Iowa)... we have helped raise enough money to get the Ramblin' Reck to the 2010 Orange Bowl. Donation-wise, we have reached a point to where we have greatly EXCEEDED the amount of money needed to pay for both a truck rental and gas to get to Miami and we are eternally grateful for this outpouring of support.

Any money that is not used for this Orange Bowl trip will be allocated directly to an endowment set aside specifically for the long term maintenance and preservation of our mascot, the Ramblin' Reck. And if you're still interested in donating, there is still time for you to enter the drawing and win the private ride and picnic around campus in the Reck.

Once again, thank you to everyone. We could not have done it without you.

Sincerely,
Winfield Tufts

One Question

Will that PayPal account always be available to make donations to for the Reck? I’m sure there are some of us that might like to make future donations to help ensure that the Reck continues to ramble for another 60+ years.

Probably not.

I was planning on taking it down after the bowl game. HOWWWEVVERRR…..there are other ways (tax deductible ways) that you will be able to donate. We are currently working towards an endowment for the Ramblin’ Reck that will ensure long term financial support for the Reck. We hope to unveil it to the public by next football season, just in time for the Reck’s 50th anniversary. If you would like more details, feel free to email me and I can send you the gift pledges.

The college football season is so fragile. It's like a glass ball being pushed around from stadium to stadium by a rhinoceros.

Iowa beat Wisky in a good game and Miami beat you...

As an Iowa fan who already thought we would win, I feel even more confident tonight. Won’t effect the Orange Bowl, but does tonight’s game give you any worries?

by HawkeyeRecon on Dec 29, 2009 11:08 PM EST reply actions

transitive property does not apply

However, Miami got whipped on both sides of the ball, half due to wisconsin’s physicality and half due to their own complete ineptitude on offense. I am worried for that reason, but I think our styles of play are so dissimilar that it is hard to make any comparisons. also, i feel as though miami has clearly regressed since that thursday night game in september, which also functioned as a revenge game that Miami was completely jacked up for . The positives that I do see and possible comparisons are that I don’t think Iowa has the offensive firepower to pull away if they get a lead as happened to wisconsin when miami was, therefore, in a position to field a winning drive in the final minute. Iowa is going to be physical in the trenches, no doubt, and it ought to be a close game, but I just don’t see Tech ever coming out that flat on offense(It was Murphy’s Law against the U this year and we still scored 17). The marquee matchup is Tech’s offense vs. Iowa’s D, but I believe that the opposite side is going to be the difference in the game.

I agree it comes down to Iowa O vs GT D, but I think Iowa's O is going to be explosive.

We’ve seen glimpses of an explosive O this year, but not a complete game. I think with a totally healthy Iowa O, and a healthy Ricky Stanzi Iowa holds its own in the run game and gets big gains through the air.

what about Indiana

Indiana “beat” you and UVA beat Indiana and GT whipped UVA so what does that mean? Don’t give me the crap that Indiana should’ve scored more points blah blah blah. The replay officials cost Indiana the game. The logic that Miami beating us and you guys Wisconsin is about as logical as comparing our teams based on the Indiana-UVA game.

Football is about individual matchups not the 7 degrees of Kevin Bacon.

You are a sad, strange little man, and you have my pity.

We beat Indiana

The refs cost Indiana 7 pts, we won by 18.

by HawkeyeRecon on Dec 30, 2009 8:10 AM EST up reply actions

I called you on this before...

We won by more than the 7 that the bad call “took away” from Indiana. I agree that transitive property in football doesn’t necessarily mean anything, but in terms of this idea that the refs handed us the game…try again,

by hawkeyeguy85 on Dec 30, 2009 8:34 AM EST up reply actions

I'm sick of hearing the refs lost that game for IU...

…cause it seemed like the next week the refs were determined to make sure no one thought that again. We had a TD from mid-field called back (on a great block that turned into a holding penalty), and a succession of obvious blown pass interference calls (each of which took place no more than ten feet away from a ref, as they continually pretended they were blind) in the final drive, not to mention the other team got free holds on our defense that people in the luxury seats could spot with the naked eye.
So even if no one else believed it, the refs were under pressure not to give anything to the Hawks (after all the crap was stirred up when Florida had the Arkansas game handed to them, they couldn’t afford another high profile- – #4 BCS- – reffing fiasco), and the result was a broken Stanzi and a non-win against jNW.

That was Tech's third game and third in twelve days

They played a warm-up game on a Saturday but followed with Clemson on Thursday in a huge game. Miami was the next Thursday. The scheduling was really crappy.

As noted, Tech had owned Miami in recent years and had made fools of them on national TV last year. Miami was well rested and out for blood.

Clay = Nigerian Nightmare + massive TE's and OL. Can't stop the corn fed line.

Jacory + best opportunity for
redshirt + 20 lbs. weight gain.

Good game pre 2nd half.

Miami

should’ve focused on pounding Cooper more.

very interesting game. did anybody think the big ten would dominate this game?? we did because we actaully WATCHED big ten football compared to the media who just saw the final scores and have no clue that every big ten team is not the choking buckeyes of ohio state. iowa HURT wisky. and when I say hurt…I mean iowa was more physical than them. they smashmouthed a bunch of their players during the game. their star TE was bruised by iowa. after one hit he was gone. and yet how physical was wisky…if you saw the game you know.

I think the media and the south have sorely underestimated the toughness of the big ten. again its always how the buckeyes go, the big ten goes. earth to the south… there is more than ohio state and their choking selves that play in the big ten. the fact that most southerners cant even name 3 teams in the big ten…pretty sure that was a shocking result to the south. but not to fans of the big ten. knew miami was totally overrated and the speed belonged to none other than the …gasp….BIG TEN TEAM

by kinnickcolt on Dec 30, 2009 6:08 AM EST reply actions

No one

here has ever said anything about Southern speed. GT is definitely of the philosophy that run first teams win a majority of the time. We run 75% of the time. You seem like you’re venting an anti-Big 10 bias. If you want to talk about conferences getting shit on by the media, you’ve come to the wrong conference affiliated blog. The only BCS conference that takes more shit than us is the Big East.

You are a sad, strange little man, and you have my pity.

He's clearly pissed that his mommy doesn't love him

As evidenced here:

the fact that most southerners cant even name 3 teams in the big ten…

Stay angry drater.

"the fact that most southerners cant even name 3 teams in the big ten"

Have you got any evidence to support this claim, or are you just making shit up to feel better about yourself?

Here are a couple of things you don’t seem to know: Georgia Tech and Miami are not in the SEC, and Southerners can count to eleven.

by CraigT on Dec 30, 2009 9:04 AM EST up reply actions

Just wait till it becomes 12

if you think we can’t count now :-)

It never gets to be easy
