Both teams...

1-11 in the first 4 and half minutes of the game.

You are a sad, strange little man, and you have my pity.

KSU radio

you can listen to the game on this KSU radio station. My work day just got a whole lot better.

As of now

I don’t think either team wants to make a basket. GT – 35% KSU – 17% shooting….uhhhh-gly

Also

I have been digging around some of the advanced stats for our team thus far, and it looks like our defense is relatively solid, but our offense is lacking with regards to D-I averages. In almost every category, our defense is ranked better than our offense, i.e. eFG% offensively 68th, defensively 6th. Off Reb is about the only major stat where our offense is ranked higher than our defense (21st/94th).

And, our of the 300+ teams listed in D-I men’s basketball, we are one of the youngest out there at 297th with an average of 1.27 years experience. I think this has something to do with the offensive struggles as these young guys learn to play with each other and share the ball and that both the youth and the offensive struggles will undoubtably lead to more games like the FSU loss.

16-27 GT at the half

Without being there to witness the shots themselves, I have to say that this is a little disconcerting. Even with what I just put out there w/r/t youth and inexperience, the talent alone should be dominating KSU. I’m going to assume that they are getting good looks and the shots just aren’t falling.

"Shots just aren't falling"

Yeah, I’d say so… GT has missed around 3 dunks already. DUNKS!

Looks like they are falling now

As I was typing that the game was in the last minute or so of the first half. In that time span, GT raised it’s shooting percentage almost five percent. I thought to myself, “I sure hope they don’t lose that during the break.” Well, we are currently shooting 81% in the second half, 55% for the game. Looks like something clicked.

Unfortunately, KSU is shooting 47% in the second half, up from their dismal 19% in the first. Looking at the fast break points, we had five total in the first, but already have eleven in the second. Here’s where I assume that the faster pace has greanted us more room for easy baskets, while doing the same for KSU.

Sheehan & Favors on the court

Has there ever been a better example of complete opposites?

Here's something to look forward to in ACC play

This is a trend I have noticed throughout the year so far, bench scoring in this game alone is 36-7 GT. Half our current points (71) are from the bench. That’s going to be very helpful once we get deep into the season and ACC play.

Hmm

Northstar is actually a very good band. Too bad they broke up.

Four players in double figures

How about Peacock leading the way with 18? I love how big he is, but he can still hit the three with ease and bang down low in the post.

On the flip side of that, what the hell happened to Miller? Kid showed a lot of poise and confidence down the stretch last year, but is no where to be seen this year. It can’t all be the arrival of Udofia.

Nice win, 55-80 GT

Just a quick rundown of interesting stats here, GT then KSU.

Bench points: 44 – 17 Our bench almost outscored the entire KSU team.
Pts off TO: 17 – 10 Always a positive
2nd chance pts: 12 – 12 Even stevens
Fastbreak pts: 16 – 2 We only gave up 8 TO’s, so either it’s that, or our defense was able to get back to the basket.
Pts in the paint: 30 – 12 Must dominate the paint when you have Lawal and Favors

All in all, without being able to physically watch the game, I’m not sure there is much to take away from this one. If anything, the first half would be much more telling than the second. Was the team just in a funk because it was an early day game, or was it just a matter of not getting into a rythym with the ball? Regardless, a win is a win is a win and this team should win against teams like KSU.
