To Jump or Not to Jump?
I am a person who is on the fence when it comes to adding in the mythical "Jump" for blog entries. For one, I think it pads your site's stats for pageviews and doesn't really tell the true story of how many people actually read your material. But on the other hand, it lets readers see more headlines in an easier fashion without having to scroll through an epic post just to see what the previous topic was. So we might be experimenting with the "Jump" for a little bit. But I want to get your initial thoughts first. Do you like or mind clicking to continue reading? Yes or No?

meh
Do what you want, it’s your site. People are either going to read it all if they are Tech fans, or they aren’t. For me this has been one of the few GT sites to stay consistently updated so I’ll be here clicking constantly every day regardless of how you set it up.
Heck, I was ready to start blogging myself (and I might still) just because I wanted to talk GT all the time and there wasn’t a Tech site on SBN, but then I found you guys. Honestly, I figured we would have way more people on here because of SBN’s affiliation with Yahoo, but oh well, at least it’s not filled with the horrible AJC posters.

Georgia Tech fans hit the forums first. That’s just how it goes.

WF, it would be kinda interesting
knowing how many people look at the site every day. And I wonder why more people dont post…I think a lot more people come here every day than actually post. Seems like more people are posting over the last couple weeks, though. Seeing more unique names.

Ya know
Before they moved over to SBN, I think I read FTRS for a little over a year without posting because I couldn’t from work, haha. I’m sure that may be the case with some, but SBN went mobile a while back so that should allow more users to post. I’ve sent this site to every GT person I know, but most don’t seem to get into web forums or commenting that much so w/e.
I’m here and I will read every post more than once, regardless of how many times I have to click to get at it.

Well if you wanna talk stats
It’s more realistic when you don’t have the jump b/c you aren’t double counting one reader.
And yes, I am seeing more unique names. woop woop!

Anndd.....
If anybody wants to see the stats on this site, scroll all the way to the bottom and click on the SITEMETER button. They are there for everyone to view and see.

Interesting stuff
Wonder where my blackberry shows up….I never log it off and usually just close the page so that I can email, calendar, etc.
Good to see my home IP concealer is working…lol…

The jump
is the worst thing you can do. I mean, if there’s some 5,000 word diatribe, then maybe. But there’s nothing more off putting to a user than the jump. It’s just a cheap way to try to get clicks / impressions.

I kindly disagree...
I understand what you are saying…
Having blogged for a couple years now…when I go to a site I never get to the bottom of the front page and hit the Explore Full Archive button. I look at the headlines on the front page and if one interests me then I clink into it. If all I see if two posts because both are so long there isn’t room for anything else and those two posts don’t interest me then I move on to another site.
The other side of it is the business side. Advertisers look at pageviews…period. Nothing cheap about it, every click has value from an advertisers point of view. Sure this is a fan network for the fans, blah blah blah but tech support and platform upgrades aren’t free. Any site not hitting certain targets is not pulling its weight and honestly I want this site to succeed. I’m enjoying finally having GT community on SBN and I want it to be one of the best college sites we have.
Another great thing about SBN is Winfield is free to run this site like he wants and if he doesn’t want jumps then so be it. I’m just trying to help ;)
Go Jackets!!
I blog the Carolina Panthers at www.catscratchreader.com
well the jump is nice if the posts have embedded videos an what not in them.
but in general i check the site at least every day so i don’t need a quick way to see the headlines, i just want more information.
