To Hell With Georgia!!! Open Thread!!!

All of the talking in the world is not going to change anything. You have to go out and win the game.

I know we're not afraid. I'm not afraid.

If you said at the beginning of the year that this could be a close game, most people would have said you were nuts. I mean one team was picked to win three games and the other was preseason No. 1 in the country. Here we are and who knows. That's why you don't play the games on paper.

Honestly, I get ready for this game as I get ready for any other game...I don’t know if they’re going to have a celebration in the streets if we win Saturday night. We still have other fish to fry.

There needs to be a playoff, its ridiculous. I can see why you wouldn't want a playoff if you're in the Big Ten. If you win your league, you have a chance to play for the [national] championship. It would be great if seven teams were undefeated at the end, I would like to see how they would explain that.

losing to georgie
I would like to know why CPJ called 3 passes in a row when there was plenty of time left to use up the clock and score a touchdown. I really think he owes us an explanation, especially since D. Thomas is now left thinking he lost the game. Take this one on yourself, Coach.
And the defense better show up next week.
We can talk about that all day
But the real issue is that we were out coached…plain and simple.
They knew their weakness and stayed away from it (I.e. Don’t let Cox throw the ball and lose the game) while knowing out weakness and exploiting it (we have no defense and can’t stop anything). You have to hand it to them—-they had a great game plan and executed it flawlessly. Yea, the last possession was handled badly IMO, but all the events leading up to that are the real issue.
Wommack must go…the defense should have adapted to their obvious run gameplan, but failed to.

that's my thought
We had space eaters last year on the defensive line that made up for poor secondary and linebacker coaching. This year, we had not answer for Vanderbilt’s offense. It’s a joke. If our offense doesn’t control the clock, we get outscored in a few of our games (e.g. VT, FSU, Vandy, etc.).
Fire Wommack.

A few things I take away from this game...
First, the Bobby Dodd ticket takers on the north end are incompetent. Took 40 minutes to get in the game once I got in line. But I will say: that was the only negative of the evening (well, actually when some Georgia Tech frat boys wouldn’t respond to my “what’s the good word now?” after the game, that was pretty dissapointing).
Anyways, your coaching staff should be absolutely ashamed in itself, especially Paul Johnson. For as much as I heard all year about how he was the master of adjustments, his in game adjustments were pretty terrible. Georgia didn’t even play a true Mike linebacker the whole night, but still stuffed the dive up the middle…yet he kept on running it, when it was clear the only way to gain yardage would be to the outside. The only plays Tech gained considerable yardage on were the Thomas pass in which he had to break a tackle, and the Hill reverse, in which he also had to break an open field tackle. Then he completely panicked letting Nesbitt prove why he’s only worth a crap in the triple option by throwing it four straight times to end the game. That was really, really weird. Not to mention the outrageously dumbass call of letting Jaybo Shaw throw the ball. That was a gift for UGA.
As for your defense, all the defensive coordinators in the world wouldn’t have stopped Georgia last night with your defensive talent. Your front 4 got manhandled worse than Tennessee Tech’s last night. Your linebackers are slow and can’t shed blocks. And Morgan Burnett, well the only fire we saw from him came on the last knee down of the game, as he insisted on pushing Georgia players post facto.
Plain and simple, you got outcoached and outplayed. Nesbitt getting hurt didn’t matter. Georgia’s best player was hurt the whole game. Your program just took a HUGE step back in national perception with that one. But at least you beat Vanderbilt and Mississippi State.
my thoughts
If you think your guys handled us, go ahead and think that. You beat us by six. We missed a chip shot field goal and gave you very good field position on a rare mesh mistake. The better team didn’t win. Plain and simple.
Both defensive coordinators should be fired.
I think the problem with Paul Johnson the past couple years has been a matter of motivating the guys for certain goals. Last year’s goal was to try and make the ACCCG but we HAD to beat Georgia. Hence, we pulled out all the stops to beat uga last year but didn’t even practice for LSU. This year, our goal was clearly to win the ACC and I feel like we just took two weeks off and didn’t even prep for Georgie.
So goes life. I still don’t believe the better team won and 9 times out of 10 we rape Georgie and their Ginger Ninja. On to the ACCCG. An Orange Bowl bid is still a better end of season result than the Motor City.

Nice to see you aren't bitter or anything there...
And no. The better team doesn’t get DOMINATED ON BOTH LINES OF SCHRIMMAGE FOR 60 MINUTES, EVER. A true freshman rushed for 182, and our “scrub,” as Tech fans called him last year, Caleb King went for 166. Think about that for a second. You just witnessed the greatest rushing performance in Mark Richt’s tenure at UGA.
And the worst defense Georgia has fielded in the modern era of college football shut your offense down to 200 yards rushing, your first sub-300 yard performance in over a month. I don’t think you realize just how terrible this UGA defense is. And they just held your can’t miss first round draft pick to 33 yards rushing.
But keep hanging your hat on being a better team. Georgia was a better team last year too, just so you know.
with uga fans this year. You think that your talent magically dropped off. Your team is the same team it was last year. You’ve still got a boat load of talent. You can play with anyone. Your team chemistry and defensive coaching has been the problem all season. So you can still lose to anyone.
And like you said, you guys dominated us on both sides of the line yet ultimately only beat us by one play. The better team didn’t win. And I’m not talking about better team in terms of individual matchups, which you guys masterfully exploited. I’m talking about the team with the better season. Tech has a shot at the Orange Bowl. You guys are scrapping with South Carolina for the Motor City Bowl. So no, the better team didn’t win. It’s a rivalry game. Anything can happen.
As far as national perception, I’d say our loss to Miami hurt us more than this game will but if we win next week and get a win against TCU or Cincinnati, then we would be right back in the top 10.

Nice Definition of "Better Team"
If I didn’t know better, I’d think you were finding a way to define “better” so that your team was better…
But we all know that’s nonsense. Having loads of talent can make you “better,” but only if you actually play well. (See GT v. UGA, 2008). Winning lots of games but losing to UGA does not mean that a team is better than UGA. Being “one play away” does not make you better, because we are “one play away” from Thomas getting tackled behind the line for no gain, no 76 yard touchdown.
Which D lineman is going to put on 50 pounds and stop getting pushed around? Which linebacker is going to shave 0.2 of his 40 dash? Which cornerback is going to cover? Your WR drop hurt worse, but we had three drops that were just as eggregious.
And keep on telling yourself that UGA is the “same team as last year.” Which quarterback is going to be the 1st draft pick? Which running back will be 12th? Any of those wide receivers looking like sure 2nd rounders to you? How about middle linebackers who are going to start in their first year in the NFL? Our two best players – A.J. Green and Butler – didn’t even play. We took a big step back in talent, and denying that fact requires deliberate blindness. Sure we’ve got good players, but we won’t have another Knowshon for a generation. Put another way – Thomas is a great receiver, but would you take him over Calvin Johnson? Do you think Calvin Johnson drops that pass?
You might finish with a higher ranking than UGA. You might win a conference championship and a better bowl game. But Tech had a chance to prove their mettle against UGA, and came up short. Head-to-head is the best metric; not the only metric, but clearly the best.
