(It is what Johnson uses at Georgia Tech.) “We were run-and-shoot, and he wanted to move to an I formation,” says Johnson. “I told him, ‘We don’t have a tight end, we don’t have a fullback. Let’s try this.’ Fifteen minutes later he came back to me and said, ‘Do what you have to do.’” The first season the Eagles rewrote the school record books and won the I-AA national title; then they repeated in ’86. Johnson has been running the option ever since.
