nesbitt

Josh has really come on big this season. His biggest play, of course, was ripping away the fumble from FS to save the defense. (ps note to defense: help him out next week!)

I worry about his

number of carries but no one really worries about the number of carries RB’s get. I think it’s not that people are worried about his durability as much as his importance to the offense. He really should be a candidate for some important POTY awards, in my opinion.

I'm about to write you a reality check. Or would you prefer the cold, hard cash of truth?

Nesbitt is a beast. Loved him stealing back that fumble to give us a first down on the double change of possession.

But as I stated last night during the drunken posting

I am officially on the Fire CDW bandwagon

And if there’s not a bandwagon, I’m startin it

I'm close to that...

but I think CPJ’s defenses are usually not too good. I think it’s a problem at practice when you’re literally never playing pass defense.

Also, the ACC is pretty effed up right now. I really hope that the Coastal doesn’t come down to a BCS ranking tie breaker scenario ‘cause I don’t think we win that game with Miami’s remaining schedule.

I hear you, brotha, but...

….think if we had a decent defense right now.

Go into a dream sequence and recall, if you will, our Tenuta defense. Yes, I hate the guy, too, but imagine if we had THAT defense with the way we are scoring points. Chan Gailey was supposed to be an offensive mastermind…and we had one of the best defenses we ever had.

I get that CPJ is an offensive diety, but there’s no reason that we can’t have a good defense, too.

Although

That is a great point about practicing against a passing offense.

I don't write about it much

but I am very tired of CDW.

how does anyone explain the drop off in defense other than losing important players?

by WhiteNGold on Oct 11, 2009 10:52 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

let me clarify.. i don’t see how we could have dropped off so much other than the losing players excuse.

by WhiteNGold on Oct 11, 2009 10:58 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I agree

I mean, we should have dropped off some because we had one of the best D-lines in the country; however, we seemed to have dropped a disproportionate amount compared to the talent that we lost.

Jump on the bandwagon!

I'm totally on that wagon

GT has had our worst back-to-back defensive games in a decade. I really don’t think our secondary is that bad, the skill level has only gotten better in the back 7 since last year. No reason we should be hemorrhaging passing TDs.

by Markthejacket on Oct 12, 2009 3:34 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

No pass D

It’s that simple. The last game we got any real pass rush was the first game against JSU. Since then we have been effectively shut out of their backfield with the exception of a few isolated plays, most likely because of a breakdown in the line moreso than our guys actually beating them. Morgan is a beast, but almost every team can simply double him and ignore him. You give a QB that much time to make reads, then you are only leaving your back seven on an island and any of us here could sit back there and make throws.

We also have a lot of guys in the secondary that like to sellout for the big play versus playing sound cover. Tarrant is trying to play like Burnett or Butler and he’s getting burnt constantly, which is exactly why he got pulled late in the game.

I also think Womack has a horrible concept of how to pass rush. Why are we dropping Morgan into coverage? He’s only going to get burnt out there. I just can’t fathom why you would take the guys best attribute away from him like that. Wommack uses very little stunts in his rush and he rarely sends LB’s in on blitzes, which I would think by this point he would see is probably exactly what is needed because our front four is getting no pressure on the opposing QB’s.

CPJ needs to light a fire under his rear or take over himself.
